birth control pills prior to inject/IUI cycle?

I sought treatment with REs after suffering some chromosomal losses after my first uneventful pregnancy at 36. last year, on first cycle of Gonal-F/IUI on low dose I made 15 follicles-6 mature at trigger and got my 7 month old son Jesse. I'm now 40-just this month. I have FSH around 2.5, estradiol 21, and all other numbers stellar. No problems. I have a new RE this year (insurance change) and he does birth control pills on ALL injectible/IUI cycles (prior to), and I am worried about oversuppression. Should I be worried-it just seems my numbers are low to begin with. Am I not already suppressed at the start of each cycle? And is there any benefit other than timing to taking these awful birth control pills for a month? It is an IUI cycle...not IVF. Thanks, Sherri

I use birth control pills on all my IVF cycles. I do not think there is any increased suppression. Please be aware that at the age of 40, even with a low FSH, your odds are not good to have a healthy pregnancy. Good luck.
