My husband and I are not in the same city. We have been trying for a baby for a long time without any sucess. I think most of the times, we just missed the ovulation date. We are considering IUI now, and wondering if this can be done with his sperm "washed" and frozen, so that I can have an "injection" of his sperm each month by the time I ovulate.

Potentially, it is possible. I would advise that you both be evaluated for possible medical issues impairing you fertility, before you spend the time and energy to follow the path you described.
