bacterial vaginosis

Dr. Jacobs....

I have heard that bacterial vaginosis can be present without any symptoms. I have had BV before (for about a year) and tried the common antibiotics as prescribed by my GYN and only acidophilus supplements got rid of it.

(1.) How common is it that aero symptoms appear? It seems that at least there would be an increase in dishcharge or something.

(2.) How likely is BV to be a problem in pregnancy? I have hear that is can cause rupture of membranes, infection, etc...but how common is that?

I am 16weeks pregnat and have an appointment this week and will ask my OB to swab for BV since I am high risk. I have been taking acidophilus for several days now just in case.

God bless!!!

Hi, I suspect that's the culprit I'm dealing with - I wanted to know what is acidophilus and how do you get it?

Acidophilos will not help. The basic organism causing vaginosis is Gardnerella vaginalis. Commonly there are additional organisms. The treatment of choice is Flagyl (metronidozol).

Thanx Mag and Dr. Jacobs - I will get a check up as well.
