Dr Jacobs, I recently did my first ivf which resulted in pregnancy. At 7w3d I went in for an ultrasound that was normal and I was released to my OB. At that time I was told to discontinue my progesterone injections. 4 days later at 8w0d I started spotting. I went in the next day and was told the pregnancy had stopped growing but heartbeat was present. One week later I miscarried. Do you think this was just a coincidence that it happened after I stopped the progesterone or could it actually be the cause? I have read that the placenta does not take over progesterone production until about 10-12 weeks. Does this mean my body may need supplimentation until then? Thank you.

I have no way of knowing why you are spotting. The placenta generally starts making more progesterone than we provide at about 6 to 8 weeks after egg retrieval, if embryo transfer is performed in the same cycle. Good luck.
