Why do some RE's include Lupron in their protocol, and others do not? What are the advantages and disadvantages?

Lupron prevents a premature surge of the pituitary hormone LH. The premature LH surge can ruin an IVF cycle. Before Lupron, about a quarter of IVF cycles were lost. Lupron also can decrease the sensitivity of ovaries to FSH stimulation, so there is also a downside tou using Lupron.

I am thinking about IVF and do not know much about how it all works, Is it necessary to take Lupron everyday up until the transfer, how often is it used?

There are different protocols for IVF, but all the protocols Iknow discontinue Lupron before egg retrieval.
