the reason why I have till the end of the year is because of my adenomyosis. It is a rare condition that causes abnormal bleeding and the uterine lining actually grows into the uterine wall and causes a lot of pain. The only cure is either getting pregnant to stop the bleeding and tissue growth into the uterine wall that causes the pain or a hyster. I am praying that pregnancy is the option that comes first! This disease usually affects women in their late 40's after their child bearing years but my docs think that my traumatic ectopic caused it... Thank you for your hope and prayers I am soooo nervous I have been on continous bc pills for 8 months without taking the placebo pills and today I took my last one so I am about to have my first cycle in a long time to get the ball rolling, wish me luck! I got pregnant once let's hope I can do it again...

I have had an HSG done...it came back normal, his swimmers are in great shape according to his test. The doctor's suggested we begin with Femara and Ovidrel

we have blue cross & blue shield. while they covered the cost of my femara and ovidrel....they are refusing to pay for the physician and ultrasounds. We already racked up over 2 grand before we found this out.

Since we bought the medication before we knew we cant have the ultrasound done...we decided to try using it on our own...without doctor's help. The pamphlets they gave me let me know when to start the Femara but.......

HOW will i know when to take my shot??? a fertility nurse (friend of friend of a friend) told me to use at home ovulation kits and inject when the lines first start showing up...but I am not sure if this is true HELP!!!!!!!

I know this is not what you want to hear, Teanque.
But my suggestion is, weigh the costs. Think about the cost of monitoring vs the cost of hospitalization if something goes wrong. How about wasted medicine if its not right or if its unsuccessful.

I understand 100% about not having coverage. We have paid over 28,000 for medicine and IVF. But right now, pregnant with triplets, it was all worth it. I would hate to have you in the emergency room because something went wrong.

After 8 years of trying.....this may be our last hope.

According to the Ovidrel package, it is only good for 90 days. This month IS the last month its good. Not using it seems like a huge waste to my husband and myself.

If something (god forbid) does go wrong and hospitalization is needed....insurance covers that (odd, I know......but true)

I would keep in constant contact with the nurse friend and if you feel the slightest bit abnormal I would rush to the ER.

I echo Jen's response. If administered incorrectly you can do more harm than good. Please be careful and if you do decide to go it without a doctor's supervison, please at the very least stay in close contact with the nurse. just so you know, there are ways around the insurance issue...if your doctor uses normal gyneacological codes as opposed to fertility treatment codes you may get away with the ultrasounds. Many doctors are aware of this and will usually try to help.

we have tried all the ways we can think of.....
started the femara and i Feeeel GREAT!!!!! no side effects so far (we are watching very closely)

according to my Oklahoma nurse......she says they dont even do the ultrasound down there. they simply use the ovulation tests to know when to do the shot. Will be going on the 16 hour trip to have her administer the shot and all Wish me luck!!! a mini vacation, i can handle that :)

Hmm, so what happens after she administers the shot? What is the next step and how long after that will you know if it all worked?

What sort of procedure is it that you are having?

that's it..just the shot, and then doctor had said we would just have sex like normal. only thing that has kept me from conceiving is my hormone levels were too low for me to ovulate. if the Femara and Ovidrel works the way the doctor is hoping, he said we had about 80% chance of conceiving the first go round. After 8 yrs of trying, i know better than to get my hopes up.

Yep...5 stepkids...ages 14 to 8, 2 godkids, and this past year we have had 3 new babies born, and 2 more due in October. (my great neices and nephews) It is baby central for the entire family....except for the oldest, childless member. me. It has been hard holding the little ones, trying to be happy forever one, because I really am happy for them....but I wanna burst into tears at the same time.

sorry....guess that all needed to come out..ive been holding it in since, oh last February???

Cool, so the shots ought to work, since they did the work up and already told you your dosages, no reason to think that wont signal you to ovulate!
Just got to wake up the ovaries!
So yeah, have him save up his little swimmers 2-3 days beforehand and then releasing them after the shot ought to give you all a great chance!

I understand the feeling of trying to clap for everyone else around you who is so happy, and then wanting to breakdown deep inside! I was trying just like you for 8 years, and my sister had twins, last year, then my brother got married, and the following month his wife found out she was pregnant due this September. All the while we had failed cycles and I was trying to be positive!

Prayer works too! Being positive and relaxed, and happy. Imagine yourself pregnant and treat your body gently as if you were already pregnant, that helps, psychologically!
PS I heard you climaxing at the same time your husband releasing the semen helps. The muscular movements help move the sperms further along their path!

congrats to your brother, and to your sister. It must have been hard for you to not hold 1 but 2 little ones in the hospital.

LOL thanks for the advice. the hardest part will be making him wait the few days. That's when he wants it the worst, when he knows he can't pooor man LOL We do our best to climax together, sometimes it works...sometimes it doesnt. then I do my butt propping for 1/2 an hour afterwards. (talk about a boring 30 minutes!!!!)

I have heard a recent study.............they say if a woman eats 1 bowl of cereal everyday (no more, no less) before becoming pregnant....she is 83% more likely to have a boy. Don't know if it is true or not...but that's what they announced on CNN the other night.
Personally, I am staying away from the cereal bowl LOL


When should one start pre-natal vitamins?? I heard to start BEFORE pregnancy.

Yeah, you should be on the pre-natal vitamins now. I started them 6 weeks before my first cycle and they have really made my hair and nails GROW! So, I have just stayed on them.

I am just so thrilled for you! Do you have a plan B. What are your options if this does not work out? It helped me when I got the phone call that it was negative, to know that the following week I would be right back on my BCP and starting my next cycle. It helped me stay upbeat!

cool, I'll go later and pick me up some vitamins. and my hir trimmed. Trying to get it down to my butt...so knowing I can take a pill to get it there quicker..WHOOHOOOO

Actually..we are praying for the miracle of twins, preferably a boy & a girl LOL Other than that...he wants a boy, as do all the kids. I mean he does have 4 girls and only 1 son. (the boy is the reason I want a girl LOL...we dont need 2 of him running around here!!!)

If, at the end of 4 cycles, nothing has happened, we move onto plan B, focusing on us as a couple, surviving his kids' teen years, & my favorite: planning for the grandkids. Sure, I'll be depressed and hurt,but after 8 yrs of hoping every month it'll be a relief to be able to have sex and not wonder IS THIS THE MONTH???????

I understand that feeling of being able to just have relaxing sex, without the stress or hope or any expectations at all!

However, I will pray you can achieve that after you get pregnant!

Teanque- Sorry to but in but I was reading your posts. Triggering when you use an opk and get a positive is just plain silly. The opk indicates your body is about to ovulate. So why would you need to trigger ovulation with a shot if you are going to do it on your own. I would be very leary about the information you got from your friend of a friend who is a nurse. If your body is on its way to surging naturally there is no need to use the ovidrel. When I did clomid and ovidrel they told me if I got a positive opk then there was no need for the ovidrel. You really need to be monitored otherwise you are just throwing away your money. If you are doing it on your own you wont have any idea how you are responding. If you trigger too early the eggs wont be mature enough to fertilize and you just wasted your femera. If you trigger too late or you are at risk for ohss you can get seriously ill. I know you want a baby really bad but this is really dangerous. Not to mention you will have no idea how many eggs you have and could end up with high order multiples. I wish you the best of luck.
