Halfway to Date of Ptest

Hi -- this is maybe the 3rd time I've posted here. Last post was when I went through my 3rd IUI at least 6 months ago. A little quick history -- I turned 40 in March. Yuck. Have been TTC for almost 3 years now. No children as of yet. None of the IUIs worked obviously, but we somehow managed to get pregnant on our own twice in between although both ended up in m/c after about 6 weeks.

First IVF retrieval was back in August this year. They retrieved 7 follicles of which 5 were good and were inseminated. We chose to do genetic testing given history and were told at day 5 that all were abnormal for various reasons.

Now on second IVF and tried a different protocol from last go around. On At end of September they retrieved 12 follicles of which 6 were good and were inseminated. At day 2 we were left with only 3 good embryos and decided to do a day 3 transfer at which point we only had 2 good embryos. Not sure of number of cells.

On 10/4 we did the transfer and I am now exactly 7 days into this "wait." Had very sore breasts up until yesterday morning and then pretty much nothing today either. I've read the soreness can be due to the endometrin and the Vivelle estrogen patches, but I am not sure.

Just wondering if anyone has/is experiencing these same changing symptoms and if I should be worried -- which of course I am. My ovaries do seem to be aching a bit, which I thought was more akin to the symptoms I felt from the injectables (prior to retrieval).

Any thoughts anyone has that is roughly in my same boat would be really appreciated. Thanks for listening. This road is so hard and long and has soooooo many bumps in it. Trying to be positive, but it is very difficult at the moment.

Hi Anjabelle:
I was sore, especially my breasts for about 5 days after the transfer. The worst night for me was night 3 after the retrieval.

Just take it easy. Stay down, let people wait on you and don't lift anything. Stay positive, it is important. :)

Stay in touch with the ladies (us) on this site, everyone is so supportive and helpful. The 2 week wait is the longest 2 weeks so just relax and dream!!! Keep the faith!

Hi Anjabelle
I am also in the dreaded two week wait. I participated in a free in vitro study at my clinic so I was injected with a mystery drug (scary...). They retrieved 11 eggs on Saturday. All 11 fertilized with ICSI. They immediately froze 3 embryos and left the remainder out to grow. We ended up with five decent embyros by day 3. We transferred 2 embryos of good quality on Tuesday-I think they were a 7 cell and 8 cell. I wish we could afford genetic testing...
So far I feel absolutely nothing but constipated. I have no breast tenderness even though I am on progesterone (I have no explanation for that). I tried very hard to do the two days bed rest-I nearly went crazy. So I am worried bc I feel nothing at all. My preg test is on Oct 19. I have to go in for an ultrasound/bw tomorrow so they can check my lining and prog/estradiol levels. Unfortunately, the study does not allow us to use an estrogen supplement. We are only on a set dose of progesterone gel that I use at night.
I am glad to find others to get through this hard time!
Talk to you later,
Lindsay

p.s. What recommendations were you given about bed rest/activity?

Hi Lisa -- I'm not sure if I've ever replied to anyone on this, so I hope I'm doing this right. We can definitely be waiting "buddies". I will cross my fingers for you (and for me obviously). Let's hope all goes well! BTW, my doctor is Dr. Kaplan -- I've done the retrieval and transfers in HP, but the regular check-ups (US and bloodwork) at River North since we live in the city.

Hi Lindsay,
Interesting that you are able to participate in the study, but it must be difficult not to know what the drug is. But, if it works -- WOW. That would be great. I don't know enough about this process to say one way or another how important the estrogen supplemant is, but I'm sure you could ask someone. As for rest after the retrieval -- the recommended 2 days of full rest and thereafter, no strenuous activity. I've tried to adhere to that for the most part -- haven't done any heavy lifting, but we do have 3 flights of stairs which can be exhausting.

It's nice you get to go in for a US and bloodwork though. I don't have any of that until the 17th, so it is a mind game at this point. And, my breast tenderness that I experienced the first 5 days is almost entirely gone. So, that's what has be me a little worried, too. BUT, I've read that you can have those symptoms and have them go away, come back, etc. and it isn't necessarily indicative of being pregnant or NOT. It's different for everyone, supposedly. So, keep the faith, I guess. That's all we can really do, isn't it? ; )

Hi MJForney -- Thanks for your nice note. Did your breast tenderness go away then after the 5th day? Just curious. I also had a REALLY hard time with the retrieval this go-around. I was bloated and could barely walk and going to the bathroom was not fun. But, they did a US to check for fluid and all looked fine. I checked with my Dr. to ask why so bad this go-around vs last and he said, it's just different each time. I had 12 follicles this time and 7 last, so more pin-pricks I suppose.

I AM trying to remain positive. You are right -- all you can do is keep the faith. And dreaming -- well, that hasn't been a problem at all. I've had more crazy dreams and REMEMBERED them than I have in the past 10 years. I think it's the progesterone and estrogen. Or, something! Anjabelle

wolffie - October 12

Hi! I am brand new here. I live in the Chicago area and my doc is out of Buffalo Grove FCI. Our retrieval and transfer were at Highland Park. I had my retrieval on Oct. 5th and our transfer was on the 10th. We transferred two 4AA blastocysts. I too have breast tenderness I think it's all the meds. They've been sore since the stimulation phase.

mjforney - October 12

How is everyone feeling today?

mjforney - October 12

Wolffie:
Is this your 1st IVF? Tell us all about it. How many eggs did you have and how many fertilized.?

WOW, they put in 4...

wolffie - October 12

Yes, this is our first IVF. Sorry...I think my post was a bit confusing. They transferred two back but they were very good quality blastocyst stage (quality was 4AA).

They were able to retrieve 9 eggs only 5 of which were mature. All five fertilized and four out of the five made it to the blastocyst stage. Three were excellent quality and one was okay. We transferred two of the best quaity and froze the other two.

The transfer was on Wed the 10th. I took Wed, Thurs, and Fri off work. It's been nice relaxing but I am beginning to get a bit stir crazy.

lisa13 - October 12

Hey Wolffie,

I did my transfer on the 6th with 2 grade 4aa's. I live in Buffalo Grove I find out on the 17th. How about you?
Who is your Doctor? Mine is Marut. I'm back at work.
This is my first ivf also. Where do you live?

wolffie - October 12

Hey neighbor...I live in Arlington Heights! My doc is Jacobs. Our preg test is scheduled for the 22nd. How long did you take off work before going back? Did you tell anyone at work? I work in a school and a lot of people know since I have been gone so much lately. I am a little nervous about questions when I get back. Any survival tips?
