mayonnaise

I know this sounds like an odd topic, but I love chicken salad and have been craving (and eating) it my whole pregnancy. I recently thought about the raw eggs in deli-made chicken salad in the mayonnaise and got a little freaked. I am curious if anyone else has had mayonnaise during their pregnancy?? I have been so careful, but never thought about that before....

Hi Sue... no worries.. I make tehe occasional veggie sandwhich with mayo... and of course had stopped early on in my pregnancy.. but did some research.. and as far as I could tell.. store bought mayo is fine.. because they have to use pasteurized products... they wnat you to stay away from homemade mayo.. and other raw egg sauces like caesar salad dressing.... bechamel sauce.. hollandaise sauce... all those sauces use raw eggs..

But as far as I could tell from my research... store bought mayo is perfectly fine.... and again.. anything in moderation is fine... chicken salad has lots of protein.. so is a very good choice!! so I wouldn't worry too much.

I miss our home made caesar salad dressing.. but we now make it wihtout the egg and it is just as good!

Hi Baby4us,

I was thinking of the mayo that is used by a deli, say at Shop Rite, to make chicken salad that they sell at the deli counter. I have made it myself using regular mayo (Hellman's), but I wasn't sure about the deli made salads. I suppose I could call and ask them.

Thanks for your reply.

That is probably best to call them.. I am sure they probably use a brand name so you should be fine.. but best to call and find out for sure...
