Hi Dr. Jacobs,
I went in for a Day 3 ultrasound b/c I wanted to start Gonal-F with IUI this cycle. However, they found 5 large cysts on my ovaries due to Gonal-F shots last month. They prescribed birth control pills to take for this month. We were going to do this IUI and then if it didn't work, move into IVF in the summer. I want to know if you think my cysts will most likely go away from this treatment of birth control pills? Or is it completely unknown how one's cysts will respond? I do not want to do another IUI with Gonal-F if these cysts take awhile to go away b/c we want to do IVF in July when I am off of work. What do you recommend we do? By the way, I have PCOS and am currently taking Metformin.
Thanks, Shannon

About 30% of the time we stimulate ovaries with FSH, and do not achieve a pregnancy, there will be residual cysts. There is a 98% probability they will be gone with your next flow, whether or not you use birth control pills. Good luck.
