i went to the gyno for the 1st time she did a normal check up with a pap but no other tests such as ultrasounds or blood. she put me on metformin i was at 500mg the 1st 5 days then 2000mg after that i got so sick i couldn't stand it even after 2/3 weeks and almost finished one bottle... was the dr right to put me on with w/o even testing to see if i was IR.? and was it okay for that high jump in dosage? i read on a board people took 500mg for a month before increased. any information would be helpful thanks.

I would have to take a medical history and examine you to know if your doctor was right to prescribe metformin. When I prescribe the drug, I find most of my patients have fewer side effects taking the brand product, Glucophage. I also recommend 500 mg every 12 hours. I invite you to see the information on polycystic ovaries which I have provided on our web site, <www.texasfertility.com>.
Good luck.
