Metformin and Clomid

Hello Dr. Jacobs,

I have a tendancy to get an early LH surge (like CD 7 or 8) and have PCOS (although I do have very regular cycles).

I tried Clomid / Ovidrel one cycle and ended up Oing around CD 10 but also ended up with 3 cycts - one complex which took 3 cycles to go away.

Now my doc wants to try Metformin with the Clomid / Ovidrel, but I think I would rather forgo the Clomid and just try the Metformin. I am afraid of getting cysts again, even with the Metformin.

What would you suggest (and I know you are not a Clomid fan, which is why I am asking ;) )?

Thanks in advance!

One last question...sorry!!

Will metformin help to lengthen the follicular phase, thereby increasing my chance of actually releasing a mature egg?

I have no data regarding metformin delaying a premature LH surge. Mteformin has a place in reproductive medicine for women who are insulin resistant and have polycystic ovaries. I doubt it would be helpful for your problem.
Good luck.
