Dr. Jacobs,
Sorry to be a bother but I have another question. The clinic my husband and I are going will in the future(not at present) require all couples with m/f infertility to have a sperm donors sperm for "back up" just in case they do not retrieve enough from the husband. Is this standard practice and is this something my husband and I should consider even though at the moment it is not a requirement? The urologist who performed my husband's testicular biopsy said the results came back fantastic, he is producing a lot of healthy mature sperm, just a delivery problem due to blocked vas defrens. If there are a lot there, why would we need a donor back up?

Thank you,
Sylvia Blanton

We do not require donor back up for ICSI cases. Recently, one of my couples would hav faired better if I had required donor sperm available.
Good luck.
