IVF cancelled due to few follicles

Hi,
I am fairly new to IVF, young (34) and healthy. I started IVF due to weak fallopian tubes. We tried IUI 2x unsuccessfully and recently did our first IVF cycle but did not go through with the egg retrievel per my doctor's recommendation. Reason being is that my follicles on my left ovary were half the size to my right (which looked good according to my doctor). I did the general course of meds/stimulants with lupron and then gonal-f (they increased steadily from 225 mg to 300 mg to 375 mg at each successive ultrasound as my estrogen levels weren't high enough). Is there a reason why my left ovary was slow to catch up to the size of my right?
FYI- they ended up doing an IUI with me this week and will figure out a course of different meds if i dont' get pregnant via iui.
Any recommendations/thoughts?
