going off of Metformin

Hello,

I am currently 9 weeks pregnant and my RE has suggested that this be the last week I am on Metformin for PCOS. I currently take three 500 mg pills/day. I am concerned about going off as I know that taking it can reduce the risk of miscarriage during the first trimester.

What do you think about stopping it before the first trimester is over? I have not had any blood tests in over a month although I don't know exactly what my RE can test for in my blood to determine if it is OK to stop the Metformin. What do you suggest? Can it hurt to continue the Metformin for the next three weeks?

Thank you!

There is a growing body of evidence that metformin decreases risk of miscarriage and gestational diabetes in women who are insulin resistant and have polycystic ovaries.
