estrace and prometrium

Dear Dr. Jacobs,
I am 33y.o. and I have undergone an IVF with ICSI cycle (for possible male infertility). Two weeks post transfer (day 3 transfer with two embryos) my beta HCG levels has come back as positive for pregnancy (557units). My physician is recommending I continue with Estrace 2mg po bid and Prometrium 200mg pv tid.
1) Is estrace safe to take when there is a confirmed pregnancy?
2) Is Prometrium (progesterone) safe as well in this instance?

Thank-you very much for taking the time to respond. :)

Both Estrace and Prometrium are identical to the hormones the ovaries make after ovulation to support a pregancy and the placenta starts making at 8 to 10 weeks of pregnancy. The warnings about these hormones in pregnancy were apparently generated by some clerk who does not know anythong about hormones. There are some completely synthetic estrogen like compounds which are harmful to a developing female fetus. I know of no evidence that any of the synthetic progestins produce problems.
Congratulations.
