hi doctor,
this is my first cycle of IVF, I have "unexplained infertility". I am 29, my husband 36 I was stimulated with gonal-F for 14 days, 2 days before my transfer my estrodiol level was plateuing though it went up the next day. I had eight eggs retrieved, 6 fertilized, 2 by ICSI, 4 without. On day three things looked good, 2 8 cells, 2 7cells, 2 6. On day 5, we went for the ET , and the reproductive endocrinologist said the embryos were not very good! only 3 were morulas, but not at the stage where they looked like they were transitioning to blastocysts, the rest arrested!
One morula was somewhat fragmented, so the other two were transferred.
My doctor could not quote me any stastitics of my chances. the success rate at the clinic is 50% for women my age.
do you know if I have any chance at all? do we have any idea what that chance might be? also, do you have any theories as to why this happened?
any help would be appreciated!
Ronnie

I have no wayof predicting outcome for you. I can tell you that genes from sperm do not play a role in embryo growth and developement until after day 3 of embryonic life. Your experience may be a sperm problem, especially if other embryos in the lab at the same time grew well.
Good luck.
