D & C

Hi Dr. Jacobs.

I am scheduled for a D & C on Thrusday for a blighted ovum. I opted for this procedure as oppossed to a natural miscarriage. I am nervous that this procedure may cause scarring etc. What do you think? The gestational sac measured at 6 weeks. Did I make a bad decision? The last thing I need is more fertility problems due to uterine scarring from a D& C.

Thanks a bunch!
Jenn

Although there is a risk of scar tissue caused by a D&C at the end of a pregnancy, the risk is small, and the procedure is a very reasonable option.
Good luck.

Hi Dr. Jacobs - Which would be your preference if you could choose D&C or Misoprostol? What are the drawbacks to Misoprostol with regards to future IVF attempts?

From a medical perspective, it does not matter if you have a D&C or use methotrexate. I am not familiar wit using Misoprostol for removing retained products of conception.
Good luck.
