Dear Dr. Jacobs,
I asked my doctor about doing my next transfer (my second IVF) on day 5 based on an online conversation between you and Lauren.
He said that because of my age, 39 this month, he would not recommend it because I may end up with no embryos to transfer.
On my first IVF I had 14 eggs and 5 fertilized and 2 transferred on day 3. They were catagorized as 9GA and 6FA.
I was just wondering if you could comment on my doctor's advice?
Thanks in advance for the assistance.
Paula

The age of your uterus is not an issue. The issue is the age of your eggs. We do day 5 transfers of blastocyst the vast majority of the time, regardless of the age of the patient. Genes from the sperm do not play a role in embryo growth and developement until after day 3. Not all of the good looking embryos on day 3 grow to blastocysts. We cannot tell on day 3 which ones wil grow and ehich ones will not. On day 5, we have more information to select embryos for transfer. Good luck.
