Lovenox and early pregnancy

scrappinheather - March 18

Hi:
I'm 4 weeks and 2 days pregnant and just started taking lovenox 2 days ago. I had a miscarriage in November at 9 weeks after seeing a perfectly healthy heartbeat up until that point. The baby measured 9 weeks but the heart just stopped beating. I'm also taking 4.4 miligrams of folic acid, 1 baby aspirin a day, and vitamin C and vitamin d to prevent bone loss. After the miscarriage my doctor tested me and I have antithrombin III definiciency and hyperhomocysteniemia. The only signs of pregnancy I feel are increased urination and feeling tired. My breasts don't hurt. Is this normal because I am so early? I can't remember how I felt last time because I didn't know I was preganant until six weeks, I thought I couldn't get pregnant because I hadn't in 1 1/2 yeas of trying. I'm really glad I found this forum because it's nice to see other people like me. Plus, I'm convinced the miscarriage happened because of the clotting issue.

Hello all,

I am so happy to have found this forum. I felt like the only one going through what I have been. I am currently 4 weeks and 1d pregnant. I have had 3 m/c and discovered before this preg. that I have a blood clotting disorder. I have the MTHFR mutation and a Protien S deficiency. I also have endo, insulin resistance and LPD but I am determined to have a baby! I am currenlty on Lovenox 40mg 1/day, baby aspirin, 5mg folic acid, prenatal vitamin, metformin 1000mg 2/day, prometrium 200mg 2/day and I think that's it.

I have never made it past 6 weeks and am anxious that all goes well. My HCG was 33 at 12dpo and 223 at 14dpo with a progesterone of 111. I read on previous posts that many of you taking Lovenox are also on a calcium supplement. Does Lovenox increase your chance of bone loss? I plan to ask my RE about this.

Also, I was told to only inject my abdomen but I've read that you can also inject your thighs. Any of you tried both and is the thigh less painful?

I have my first u/s on 4/17 and am praying all goes well.

Injecting your abdomen is the best due to the rate of absorption. It sux, but from what I know, it is the best spot. Do it slowly and you can ask your doctor for a numbing cream. i go next week to my specialist. I don't want to get pregnant, until I have a game plan. I don't want a 4th miscarriage. My heart can't take it. :(

Thanks for the quick reply Trying Again. I totally understand how you feel. I just have to stay positive with this one or I'll go nuts with anxiety. My DH is nervous also. I swtiched doctors after my last experience. My previous was supposedly rated #1 in the state but he was so arrogant. I had to beg him to test my progesterone which he never did and finally put me on prometrium at 5 weeks 2 days, which now I know is too late. He kept saying endo was my problem and that we should just wait and see. He was such a jerk when at 6w 1 day we went for a 2nd u/s and there was no heartbeat. He wanted to schedule the d&c right away.

I'm so glad I have found good doctors this time around who listened to my concerns and tested me for almost everything. I'm hoping this time the Lovenox and everything else helps. I'll keep you posted.

Hi all.

Can anyone equip me with a list of questions to ask my OB tomorrow and my perinatal specialist on Thursday.

I have MTHFR.

So far I will ask...

Lovenox and Baby Aspirin Okay?
Lovenox causes bleeding? Brown? Red?
Hematologist necessary? RE necessary?
How often will I have blood work?
Test for Homocysteine levels every 2 months?
Folgard?

I try not to consume my life with researching this but all of you seem to have much more vigilant Dr's than I do. I am seeing a brand new Doc tomorrow since my Doc won't see me till 11th nor does the office return calls.

OK, any help would be fab!

I am glad you got a good doctor! About the progesterone thing, the reason why he was didn't give it is b/c evidently leuteul phase defect is an unproven theory. Most women that miscarry, even with the progesterone still miscarry for a miriad of reasons (for me, it seems to be the factor 5 disorder).

I would also ask about bed rest, a question I have is about delivery. They will induce you, so you will have to ask how early they will do that and if you have to have a vaginal delivery or c-section.

good luck!! My appt. with the specialist is on the 12th.

WEll i have been in all of you boats more then once. I have been pregnante 6 times. With once healthy child. I had 3 m/c b4 my daughter who is 2 1/2 yrs old and 2 since her. We are once again trying again now. I have to go through the whole fertility thing to get pregnant. I do progestrone and lovenox to stay pregnant. Everyone of my m/c were at 10-14 weeks. Just for piece of mind scappinheather at 6 weeks you usually dont have much syptoms of pregnancy, except for peeing and possibly vomitting.

Why were yoiu put on prometrium during pregnancy????? I take that to induce my period....

scrappinheather - May 8

Good luck everyone. I'm not at 11 1/2 weeks and I don't have my next u/s for 2 more weeks. I had one at 8 weeks and everything was great. I must say this whole early pregnancy thing is very nerve racking, esp. when you don't have a lot of pregnancy symptoms :-)

Hello everyone:

Just wondered if anyone had any trouble conceiving after being put on Lovenox 40mg. Conception was the least of my problems months ago. I would conceive and then miscarry very early. Tests revealed that I had elevated levels of APA and then lovenox was prescribed. Now we can't seem to get pregnant. I would really appreciate any feedback on this topic. I feel like we are encountering a whole new problem just when I thought my problems were close to being resolved. Thank you in advance for any advice. Christina

I Had a healthy baby 2 years ago while taking heparin throughout my entire pregnancy. I am pregnant again and this time I will be taking Lovenox. My specialist told me I can give myself a shot wherever I can pinch skin (my stomach, thigh or the back of my arm). For the first pregnancy I did most shots in my stomach, but by the end I ran out of space and had to switch to my thighs because I was doing two shot a day. Whatever works for her. The pain did not decrease when I did it in my thighs. good luck!

karrot305 - July 31

christina- from what Ive read and studied, lovenox is actually supposed to HELP with conception. Particularly the implantation process. So even if you get a fertilized egg and it doesnt implant, you wont get pregnant, but the lovenox helps the situation by preventing clotting at the implantation site. Nowhere have I seen anything about making it harder to concieve. try to stick with it, Im sure it sucks to be so frustrated.

as far as injection sites go... ive been doing the lovenox for about a month and just last night had my first really bad bruising! i started by working up my thighs and the biggest bruise there was about the size of a nickle, flat, and not tender. The last two nights I did just above my belly button- the one just to the right had ZERO bruising, the same spot just to the left from last night looks like I have a purple golf ball under my skin and is soooo hard and tender! I dont know what I did differently! so weird. but I think Im gonna move back to my hips and thighs for good! the only thing my Dr. said was to move around body parts gradually because of absorbtion. like go from thighs to hips to love handles to stomach, never just back and forth like from legs to abs.

good luck! Kara

i was told you can inject the lovenox anywhere that thee is subcutaneous tissue (fat) long as its not in a muscle

Viktoria - August 2

I just came off of Lovenox. I'm almost to term with my first. No issues at all, everything is going well, after the doctors found that I too had a DVT.
I still have a full box of Lovenox 80mg if anyone needs it. I paid alot for it and would like to do something with it. You can email me at [email protected] if intrested. Good luck to all!!
