Cancelled IVF cycle - low response

This was my first IVF cycle. My follicles did not produce the number or size they should have - only 5 and all were small. I was on the Lupron Flare protocol (20 units of lupron + 225 iu's of gonal F twice a day). After my second US and estrogen blood work, my doctor suggested I stop this cycle. What's worse, she doesn't recommend another cycle because the results would more than likely be the same. She recommends using donor eggs. I'm 37 and healthy. My FSH level was slightly elevated which is why we went with the lupron flare protocol. Any one out there with similar issues? I'm pretty disappointed.

Hello there I just wanted you to know one of the Sisters from the Sisterhood had the same problem but she never gave up and her doctor didn't either. She is pregnant now and doing great.

Thanks for the info. I'm wondering if I should get a second opinion or if I am just grasping at straws. My doctor suggested using donor eggs, but I'm not sure I can emotionally deal with that.

I am suprised they didn't lower the Lupron after 10 days. I was on 20 units of Lupron for 10 days and then the doctor decreased it to 5 IU per day in the a.m. and started taking 75 IU Menopur in the a.m. and 100 IU Follistem in the p.m. (still taking 5 IU Lupron in the a.m.). Did they lower the Lupron at any time? I guess all bodies react differently but maybe get another opinion or research IVF protocol online. I will be 37 in May and this is my first cycle. I should be taking the HCG tomorrow night for a Thursday retrieval. I am crossing my fingers and toes!

My lupron was never lowered. I have an appt with the dr in a few weeks to discuss donor eggs. I'll ask if that could have been the issue.

Thanks

Newbie, I am in the same boat as you, low follie #'s and 2 cycles cancelled due to it. I am 35 and DH is 37. We have been ttc for 7 years and I am now on my 3rd Fertility Specialist. We have already done 1 Fresh IVF using DE and 2 FET using DE with all being BFN's. I have just switched my care over to the new Dr. in January 2007 and I just had a Lapraoscopy done on 2/1/07 and the new Dr found endo and a cyst on one of my ovaries, which he removed the endo and cyst. The endo was not too bad, but one was pretty deep on the uterus and the Dr. said that this might have been the cause of BFN's since the embies would not be able to stick to the uterus having endo. We meet back with the new Dr. on the 22nd of February to go over what options he thinks we have in ttc. We have also begun the process of adoption just in case we can not have a child of our own. We are so hopeful with this new Dr and we just keep the faith. We know God works in mysterious ways and only he knows the answers. Our marriage has only gotten stronger through this whole thing and we know it will only continue to get even stronger as the time goes by. DON'T GIVE UP.....

Hi wannabeamommy

I am pretty new to this site as well. You will find a lot of support on this site from the women on the different boards. I am thinking that you should be fine now that your new doctor found out what the problem is. Sometimes these doctors just simply upset me for lack of testing. Just because someone is young does not mean they are ok. My obgyn always told me i was fine and that i had nothing to worry about. Guess what i was not ok, both my tubes are blocked the left worse then the right. But I have found that there is hope for us.

Be positive and know that it will happen. Most of the women on this board tel me this is the key. Anyway wanted to share something with you. Check out this site radiantwonder.com. It a site about infertility and how to cure naturally. This is what I am thinking it can't hurt even if you are getting extra help IVF or whatever else, this would not hurt. Check it out there are many women on that site who had your problem and had a baby. I hope this helps. I am 34 years old and my DH 36 so I feel your pain. I actually ordered some of the herbs on the site.

I am hear if you need me and so are all the oher ladies.

Destinybaby,
Thanks for your support. I know what you mean about the dumb_ _ _ Dr. from what this new Dr. said, the prior Dr. should have done the scope before even letting us try IVF AT ALL. Glad we spent all that money to the 2nd Dr. and now have to spend it all over again (UGH!!) I have been on other "boards" and it seems that it is hard to find others who have or are going to be using DE. It is nice to see that there are really others out here like myself! Where are you from? I am in Indiana (it is very cold and snowy here) and one day we plan on moving to the Cayman Islands (after this last snow storm I sure wish it was sooner than later!!!).

BABY DUST TO ALL!!!!
