Sperm DNA Fragmentation

Purpletangerine - January 30

Hi

My husband had an SCSA test and the fragmentation was 29.6%, should I be concerned that this will cause IVF failure? or is this still a low percentage?

Thank you!!

Dr Smith - January 31

29.6 is on the cusp between good and fair fertility potential. Over 30 is into the "fair" category.

Dr. Evansen:

"It is important to note that a DFI value above 30% does not preclude a normal, full- term pregnancy. A >30% DFI, if consistent over time, does mean that the male partner is statistically placed into a group of men that demonstrate a longer time period to establish a natural pregnancy, more routine IVF cycles, increased risk of spontaneous miscarriages or no pregnancy.

* Current data, mostly unpublished, are suggesting that the statistical threshold for ICSI derived pregnancies is higher than 30% DFI. Some physicians are recommending ICSI when HDS >15% and/or DFI >30%."
