Mini HCG

Hello Dr. Smith -

I am going thru an IVF cycle. I did IVF 3 years ago and during that cycle I hyperstimulated and had to freeze all of my embryos (17). After transferring all the embryos in 5 different transfer cycles it did result in a pregnancy and I have a 3 yr old son. I went in for one of my last u/s before my retrieval to measure my follicles and I had to see a doctor on call. She wants me to do a mini-HCG shot today (and a full one tomorrow for a retrieval on tuesday), she says it will reduce my odds of hyperstimulating (they have been reducing my follistim IUs from 325 down to 250 down to 100). Well my doctor has never brought this up to me and I have never heard of it. I don't really feel comfortable messing with my doctors protocol. Unfortunately he is not working today (it is the weekend) and this other doctor is the one on call.

Should I do the mini-hcg shot and assume this other doctor knows what she talking about? Are their any risks of ovulating early because I took the mini HCG shot?

And advice would be helpful.

Thank You

Oops, I guess this will come much too late. My appologies, I was sick with a nasty flu I picked up in SE Asia.

I suppose it doesnt much matter because I don't much about the low dose hCG protocol. It is not in widespread use. What the "fill in" doc wanted to do does not make a great deal of sense to me and I too have never heard of this approch to reducing the chances of hyperstimulation. That being said, your question is outside my area of expertise and the best person to ask would be Dr Jacob. He is a RE and may have some expience with this protocol. Sorry I couldn't be of more (and timely) help.
