Hello Dr. Smith
Could you please comment on the potential ovarian response of a 36 yr. old healthy woman with an FSH of 6.94 and estradiol of 125 on CD 3? Just an added note: I went for a sonohystogram on CD8 of that same bloodwork cycle and it appeared I was about to ovulate at that time according to the u/s. Could being earlier in the follicular phase than thought be responsible for an elevated E2 and not necessarily be a bad prognosis for ovarian response?
Thank you,
Meridith

This is more of a medical question, so I think I will defer to Dr Jacobs for the final word. As I understand it, if your E2 is above 60 pg/ml on cycle day 3, the FSH is depressed by the elevated E2 and therefore not representative of the true value. With a normal E2, your FSH is probably much higher indicating a low ovarian reserve. A shortened follicular phase (i.e. early ovulation) is also not a good sign. Sorry for the bad news. See what Dr Jacobs thinks.
