Estradiol and Gonal-F

Hello,

Little background- 29, PCOS, one blocked tube, 2 failed IUI's (1 Clomid, 1 Femara).

I started a new IUI cycle and began Gonal-F on CD3 with each shot being 75 units. Went back today (CD 7) to check Estradiol, lining, and follicles. Nurse said that the follicles are still small (10 mm), lining looks good, and my Estradiol came back at 71. My RE said to up my Gonal-F level to 112 units starting tonight and I will return to them on Friday (CD 10). I am also currently taking Metformin.

In your opinion, does all of this seem like normal numbers? or does it seem like my body is not responding at all? (I had great responses to Clomid and Femara) Do you think there is still enough time for my follicles to grow and Estradiol to rise? Any thoughts on my situation would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Shannon

Some patients get off to a slow start and that's O.K. I think your RE is deliberately trying to slow your stimulation because you have PCOS. Patients with PCOS tend to stimulate too rapidly which, in turn, compromises egg maturity and quality. Be patient (no pun intended). If the estradiol shows an adequate rise at you next visit, all is well. If it does not, then you may have to scap this cycle and start again with a little bit higher dose of Follistim right from the beginning next time.

Clomid and Femara work differently from FSH products (like Follistim), so you can't compare - like apples and oranges.

Thanks Dr. Smith for the information! :)
