First I think it is just an ideal that they would like you to be at your proper weight for your height. In the States the general rule of thumb is that you should be about 100lbs if your are 5' tall and then about 5lbs for each inch after that - I apologize to do this in lbs but I forget what a stone is - 14 pounds? So again in an ideal world if you are 11 stone and are maybe around 5'8" tall you would be perfect. That said I am 5'8" and am a bit more than that and just did IVF and was fine. The reason they prefer that you not be overweight is
A. it might interfere with the ultra-sound and they need to do to monitor the follicle growth and
B. if it does work and you get pregnant being overweight can add complications to that.

Now like I said due to all the TTC stress and then 6 clomide cycles I gained about 25 extra pounds over the years and I did not have any IVF complication. I also know a girl I work with who is over 300lbs and was successful with her first IVF and had healthy full term twins so do not get discouraged. Even if you are a few pounds/stone more than you would want to be (aren't we all regardless of IVF?!) it does not sound like you have that big a problem - so stay positive and good luck.
