We have a male factor problem.  We started IUI 6 months ago, the first time the count was 1.1mill, the next time 500K and 800K in back to back IUI's.  My husband started taking fertility blend and glucophage for insulin resistance.  the counts have been goin up.  the next cycle was 2.1 and 4.1 (back to backs) and last month 7.5.  I had IUI done again today and the count was back to 1.1.  What could be the reason for this and what can we do?

today we did a 2nd IUI and the count was 4.5 milion.  Same amount of abstinence, so what gives?

Also whats the difference between motility and forward progression.  After washing today the forward progression was 3 but motility 20%.  What does that mean and how does that effect our chances?

Sperm concentrations are extremely variable. They go up. They go down. It is unlikely that any kind of "fertility blend" is having an effect. You're just seeing the typical variation.

If there is a sperm problem, do not waste your time on IUI's. They are extremely ineffective as a treatment for sperm problems.

Motility is the percentage of sperm that are swimming. Progressive motility is the percentatge that are swimming straight and fast enough to fertilize an egg.

Thank you.  If this IUI does not work, we were considering moving to IVF.  Thank you for helping me make that decision.
