Dr. Smith,
My husband has a  SA performed at a Reproductive Endocrinologist office recently- his results as they were read to me are:
count: 12 million
motility: 25%
morphology: 9%

In your opinion, do we have any realistic chance at conceiving without ART?  I have delayed ovulation (as indicated by 13 months of charting, OPK, monitors) and we have a follow up appt with an Urologist to rule out a variolcele.  Thought?

thanks.

It depends on your definition of "realistic". I have learned the hard way to never say never. However, based on the semen parameters, the chance of conceiving naturally is rather low and you would certainly benefit from ART in terms of speeding up the process.

I appreciate the feedback.  And I understand that you cannot give an ironclad opinion.
Thank you.
As I am thinking, stranger things have happened . . and you can never say never!  My definition of realistic is if the SA is an accurate reflection of my husbands fertility and we do not participate in ART, is it highly unlikely . ..or slim to none?
My impression from the RE, without giving # or %, was slim to none to conceive naturally- also, he is 35 and I am 31.

I really appreciate it.

I looked into my crystal ball and it answered back "slim". This is based not only on the SA results, but also the fact that you've been attempting to get pregnant by timed intercourse for 13 months and have been unsuccessful. A couple your age would be expected to conceive within 6 months of trying timed intercourse on every cycle. Since you've been trying twice that long and nothing has happened, its time to put the odds more in your favor through ART.

Best of luck.
