Sir,
  Sorry to bother you but I have one more question(for now...LOL).  I apologize if you have already answered this.
  Is there an increased risk of identical twins when ICSI is performed in comparison with regular IVF?  I was just wondering if the additional munipulation of the egg caused it to split?

32 yr old with 36 yr old dh been married 4 years, I.  First IVFw/ICSI scheduled January 2006..... BFP on Feb 6, 2006. Due October 14th...It's TWINS!!!!!  Babies arrived 14 weeks premature, boy 1lb 11 ounces and girl 1 lb 9 ounces

I am not aware of any reports suggesting a higher identical twinning rate following ICSI. This is probably because the hole made by the sperm injection needle as it passes through the zona is very small (3-5 micrometers) in comparison to the egg (120 micrometers in diameter). And, surprisingly, the manipulation of the cytoplasm during the injection procedure does not appear to have a detrimental effect on embryo develoment either.
