can anyone help?

I am new to this website and new to the infertility issue-  My husband and I have been trying for almost 2 years.  Doctors suspected PCOS, but bloodwork came back normal- still awaiting Insulin levels.  Currently I am on Metformin and will be starting Clomid in a month.  Just got news today that my husband's semen test came back with 8% count and 50% antibodies on the sperm.  Can anyone relate or provide more info if this is really bad news or if something can be done for this?  I feel like there is no one to answer me.  Feeling very sad and confused as all my friends are happily having babies.

Shansy,
Welcome to the site.  The ladies on here are amazingly supportive.  You will be happy you found it!

I am sorry about your antagonizing journey.  It never seems to be easy.  I have problems ovulating and I had some lemon sized firbroid tumors removed last August.  As if that wasn't bad enough, my husband's SA came back with low count and morphology.....motility isn't great either.  He has been on Clomid for over a year to up his FSH levels, which has helped some.  We were devastated.  It's a horrible realization when both of you have factors.

I have never heard of antibodies in the sperm.  What is that?  I am so sorry you have to deal with all of this.  Although our problems differ, you have the understanding of many women who know exactly what it is like to be in your shoes.

There are so many things that can be done these days for many of these problems.  I marvel at the fact that even 20 years ago there was not the kind of help that there is today.  We must keep the faith that this can still happen for us!

What does your doctor recommend?  Can you try IUI or must you go straight to IVF?  Keep us posted.  Take care.

Hi-your case sounds a lot like my husband and I.  I have PCOS too, but our Dr. wanted to do some more checking to make sure it wasn't just that.  My husband's sperm count was so low, our Dr. said there was probably no way we'd conceive on our own.  Because of my husbands low count, we went straight to IVF and had great success our first try.  We just completed our second IVF cycle, which too, is a success.  However, I am having some troubles.  Anyway, I know what you're going through. It's a long process.  A lot of emotions.  I can relate to all of your friends having babies or being pregnant when you're trying and trying.  It might not be a bad idea to talk with a Specialist, if you're not already, about what you're options are because of your husband's analysis results.  Just know there is hope, and as hard as it is to see the light at the end of tunnel, you will.  Good luck and keep us all posted!

Thanks for the support and info.  Our nurse said we can try IUI, but we are awaiting our appt. with our RE for more info.  The antibodies are described as % bound and his is 50% bound- what it means is that his immune system was allowed access to his semen (usually from a trauma) and identified it as a foreign substance and began to attack it- the only thing is- my DH cannot think of a time when anything happened to cause this.  Usually it is seen in men who have had vasectomies.  We will find out more info. later when we meet with the RE.  His % normal morphology came out as 8 which I guess is low.  I am still trying to understand all of this medical talk-  Thanks again for your help!  Hope you have good luck in your journey.  I love this website, great to finally be able to talk to others who understand.

You may want to investigate IVF with ICSI - which is where they can inject one sperm into one egg...I was told this may help my DH as it is suspected he may have some antibodies from his vasactomy reversal in adddition to lower count and motility. good luck to you!!
