I am wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get Lovenox at a cheaper rate.  I am factor V and 13 weeks pregnant and am starting the shots tomorrow and just found out that they are $450 per month after insurance!  I think that is a little much.  Any ideas or suggestions?  I have been doing some research but am having no luck. I also am wondering- my dr has me on the 365mg of aspirin plus the 40 mg of lovenox. is this safe to be taking the 365 mg aspirin.  I have been reading all the posts and I am finding a lot of people are only on  the 81 mg aspirin?  Please help?

I just wanted to give everyone a quick update... I had to stay away because it scared me too much to keep reading.  I am 34 weeks pregnant today(!) and so far, so good.  Please say a prayer, though - as the day gets closer, I'm getting more and more scared.
We had a rough go at first and I was actually placed on bedrest for almost 2 months with a subchorionic hematoma.  I bled a little one day which is the only way they found it.  I had to stay on the Lovenox shots, though, because I was still making the anti-bodies to the baby.  So it was a week of wait and see... after that week, the hematoma had doubled in size and was by the placenta.  I was put on strict bedrest then, except for the daily or every other day trip to the doctor's for more ultrasounds, and I was not allowed to do anything until it had healed.  The other part was that I had to stop taking the Lovenox as they were concerned about me not clotting.  Stopping the shots was harder than doing them.
I've heard it both ways, that bedrest does help or that it only delays the inevitable.  For me, it worked.  The hematoma healed and I was allowed to go back, eventually, to mostly normal life.  I'm back at work and allowed to do most things.
I just wanted to share where I was... I am not done yet, but we are so excited to be here.  I feel like even if there is a crisis, I could still deliver and be ok right now.  It's been a scary, tumultous few months... and in the end, it will be so worth it.
Good luck to you all - I'm so grateful that this board and you all were there for me when I needed it the most.  You are all in my prayers...

Hi -
I have MTHFR, bi-cornuate uterus and an autoimmune disorder. After 2 miscarriages I gave birth by C-section in Jan 06 to a beautiful baby girl. Had to take 81mg aspirin, RX folic acid & B vitamins, Heparin injections 2x day, and Prednisone during entire pregnancy.
Just found out I am 5 weeks pg again (suprise) and my doctor did not put me on Prednisone and is testing my homocysteine levels this time to see if maybe I will not need to continue with the Heparin injections, though I am currently taking them.

Has anyone had sucessful subsequent pregnancies where they only had to take the 81 mg aspirin and the RX folgard after taking Heparin the 1st time?

For those out there who might not have insurance and need Levonox, I was told by my hemotologist that the drug company will provide it for free to pregnant women.  It is word calling the drug company to find out.
Good luck!

My name is Tara from Montana, I'm 22 and gave birth to a beautiful, healthy girl in January of 2007. Two days later I developed a pulmonary embolism in my right lung and that's when all my problems began. The hospital I gave birth in did not believe me and kept insisting I was having an anxiety attack. Lucky for me, my mom's a nurse and with much pleading and begging, gave me a cat scan. Sure enough, I did have a clot in my right lung which was really scary. They put me on heprin and a week later cumidin, however the cumidin made my stomach muscles rip and bleed so they gave me an IVC filter in my vena cava vein.
Well after much testing, they did find out that I have MTHFR homozygous and how I did not get a clot before the birth of my daughter is a great surprise. I was on the pill for four years and delivered my baby by c-section because she was breech.
Doctors tell me next pregnancy I will be on lovenox, I am just wondering if anyone has develped a pulminary embolism from having a c-section. All of my family and friends have had perfect births (I was lucky enough to have a perfect pregnancy) so I have no one to talk to about this. Looking forward to what anyone has to say!

Hi Firsttry2006,

I just came across your post on this message board.  I just discovered this board a few days ago and I am so encouraged by all that I read.

I too have been diagnosed with Antithrombin III.  I just wanted to respond to your question.  Of course, you can always go for another consultation to a different doctor.  It would probably be a good idea for many reasons.

As for the fertility issues, I don't know everything, but I know that it would be a HUGE risk if I took hormones-which is what most fertility drugs are.  I've see two nationally renowed specialists about my clotting disorder--one that specializes in helping women with clotting disorders have healthy pregnancies.  If my husband and I can't conceive naturally, then we will have to look to other ways to have a family, such as adoption or surrogacy.

As much as we want to have our own children, we also want me to be there to live life together and raise them.

Again, ATIII is a clotting disorder with serious risks.  I had a DVT and Pulmonary Embolism at 27 and almost died, therefore we know I am at great risk.  If you have just been diagnosed, but not had any clots yet, then maybe your doctor would advise differently---but hormonal therapies have been tied to blood clots...thus the problem with us taking fertility medications.

Hope this helps.  There is definitely some good information out there on the web and seek second and third opinions.  I hope it goes well for you!

I have been diagnosed with ATII (antithrombin III).  Has anyone else had this diagnosis?  My doctor does not want to do fertility treatments, but I am desperate!  Should I go for another consult?  Has anyone had this diagnosis and gotten Clomid, etc?

PLEASE HELP

Hi ya,
I just found this site and am really greatful to have others to talk with with the same or similar disorders.
After several miscarraiges that were incrediably painful, I found a specialist to help.  I went to a reproductive health specialist instead of the norm.  After an extensive work up they found I have several auto- immune disorders and blood disorders.  To my surprise I always felt healthy yet no one could explain why I had miscarriages.  I was told that was natures way! (crap)
I began taking pegestrone injections and lovenox and the typical regimn of vitimans, Prenatal, B's folic acid baby asprine.  We got pregnant  over thanksgiving.  It has been very tough.  For the first 12 weeks we were touch and go every week...I still had spotting and the scare of losing it.  Had to have an internal ultra sound every week.  We were told after we made it to 14 weeks we were good.  YAH!
No, at 16weeks I had more spotting and they found that my cervix was to weak, had shortened and was opening.  I had a cerclage the next day.  Two weeks later it was failing and I had another one.  Since then I am on total bed rest and it has been very (appox. 13 weeks) overwhelming!!!! We see the doctor every week to two weeks to keep an eye on us. I have to say it is a bit comforting to see my little guy so often.  Our baby is doing absoultley great!  We are at 30 weeks now and am looking forward to the end and beginning.  Yet our ordeal is not over.  My husban has just started Chemo thearpy for lymphoma. (We found out about the lymphoma in the last three weeks)  Now we are trying to scale out when to schedule his next few rounds of chemo and when to take out the stitch.  The doctors are not clear on how long it will take to go into labor after the stitch is removed.  Does anyone have a good guess for me?  This is our first delievered baby all the others failed.  Don't get me wrong my Doctors are great!!! (I have 3.) I also know each situation is different yet some sort of idea of how long it is would be great.    Thanks so much for listening.

Hi everyone!  I was wondering if anyone has antiphospholipid syndrome and is trying to get pregnant or has had a successful pregnancy?  I have a healthy boy who is 3 years old and I had preeclampsia during that pregnancy and delivered at 36 weeks.  In March of this year I had a stillbirth at 22 weeks in which I also had preeclampsia.  Thus my OBGYN ran some blood tests and discovered I have this syndrome.  I went to a high risk pregnancy Doctor this week  and he gave me great information.  I want to wait a few more months before I get pregnant.  I really want another child!

Hello....

I'm 22 and i have 3 living children. Last year i went thru a horrible misscarriage leading to a blood transfusion, and now i am pregnant again. I started spotting 5 days ago, and passing blood clots just 2 days ago and the doctors think i am having another miscarriage. Has anyone else been thru and of this, and if so what was the outcome?

hey honey,
i'm so sorry..it sucks and you have every right to be pissed.  hey the more you're pissed now the healthier you'll be tomorrow!  i say go smash something..hell get smashed, you can.  you mentioned a disorder..  which one were you referring to?  have your drs done any testing?  do you have insurance?  after my 2nd they sent me to the blood test clinic with a work order for 21 different tests.  they took a lot of blood but one of the tests came back abnormal, then they sent me back for 3 more tests that narrowed down the reason for my m/cs.  i would push those drs to test you.  if they can't request to go to a high risk pg dr.  or a hemotologist.  the more answers i have the better i feel.  also when you go for the follow up or call them write down your questions and don't let them skip over answering.  you're their boss...  without patients they're out of business.  if you are still not happy start shopping for a new ob/gyn.  ask around who your friends have used, which hospital in your area do you like?  make sure that the dr goes to that hospital, i figured a good hospital would have good drs.  my local hospital seems less than par so i go to the private hospital in the next county, they have more money over there.  i just checked my network and asked a friend w/ 2 kids.
be sad, be pissed, be angry, be jealous, get mad, and fight!
