Is anyone taking Lovenox who has not been diagnosed with a clotting disorder?

I have had 2 m/c, one 6 weeks and one at 10 weeks. Both were D&Cs and my OB sent tissue to be tested but couldn't find anything abnormal. I've also had 5 early m/c (OB thinks caused by progesterone deficiency).

My OB tested me for the most common clotting disorders, autoimmune and other problems, but all results were negative. I have never had a blood clot. Doc still wants me to take Lovenox when I ttc again -- he says there are many types of thrombophilias and it would be too hard to test for all. I will be taking progesterone as well.

I am not sure how I feel about this...I would rather know for sure if I have a clotting disorder before I take the Lovenox. Is anyone here taking it 'just in case?'

hi - i'm new as well. I just had a D&C on Thursday. At 7 weeks they said there was no heartbeat. We are devistated. We had a miscarriage in Feb 06 too but that was an early one and it didn't affect us the same.

I was very excited to read this board - yes at 2 in the morning! I have protein c deficiency and my obgyn - who is an infertility doc didn't seem to think i needed any extra preventitive measures. Now after reading thru I'm wondering if I should have been put on asprin and/or heprin. Any other protien c's out there who can help?

I've never actually had a clot but my mother, brother and sister all have.

I have a happy healthy 3 year old son to keep me busy and my mind off of things.

pixi 1,

Reading your post reminds me so much of myself, I have had every test you can possibly imagine, and every test has come back NEGATIVE! I have been to high risk ob-gyn's, Hemetologist and etc...etc... the list goes on and on, they can not find anything wrong with me!

I have had over 10 miscarriages, the last one I was on Lovenox 2x aday, 81mg of asiprin, folate, and pre natal vitiamins I started the Lovenox about 3-4 months before I got pregnant, I just knew this was going to be the one, but sad to say it also ended in a M/C at 7 weeks.

So yes I was put on Lovenox with out knowing exactly what was going on with me!

My doctor at the felt that I had some type of clotting disorder but could not pin point what it was, so therefore she treated me as if I had Antilipid Antibody Syndrome (APS).

So know I'm in the process of seeing an R.E, everyone is telling me this is the kind of Dr. I need to see, I thought it was for women that had infertility issues, which I don't, THANK GOD it's not really hard for me to conceive, but from what I understand this DR. helps with infertility and fertility issues.

Have you seen a RE before? and also have you been to a Hemetologist before? I was also told it's good to be on progesterone suppoistories before you conceive and up until 12 weeks after you conceive.

Everytime I have test done I hope I hear we found it somethings positive, and usually we want to hear everything is negative, it's crazy....hope to hear from you....take care....Tiffany

Hey Tiffany - I am sorry you have been through so much. Yes, our stories are very similar. I felt the same way about getting a positive -- finally we would have some answers -- but everything has been negative.

I have not seen an RE or hemotologist...I didn't know who to see besides my OB (he specializes in infertility as well). My OB says many patients with unexplained multiple m/c have had successful pregnancies w/Lovenox. I did take progesterone and Lovenox before my last m/c but started too late, the pregnancy was already failing.

I hope you have some luck with the RE and that you post your progress. I think I will look into that and the hemotologist... I'll let you know how that goes. I've been researching and looking for other boards, but haven't found much on this subject but I will keep looking and let you know if I find anything.
Thank you so much for posting your story. Good luck!!

pixi 1,

Thanks for responding back, Oh Ok so you started the Lovenox and Progesterone but it was to late, how far were you when you started? It sounds like that might be the answer, since it sounds like you don't have a problem conceving (like myself for the most part) I would start the Lovenox, progesterone suppositories, folate(folic acid,b-6 and b-12 combined) and prenatal pills.

I have never been to an R.E either, but hopefully I will be seen by one sometime in August...my ob gyn also deals with infertility and high risk pregnancy's, so when I did see the Hemotologist he took 14 tubes of blood all came back negative, my ob gyn had already requested for me to take alot of labs most of the same test, But I talked her into giving me a refferal to the Hemotologist.

But I really feel that you and both will get to the bottom of this if we see an R.E!

How far do you get in your pregnancies? I cannot get passed 6-7 weeks now, I have gotten to 20+ weeks before, but the last ones always end between 6-7 weeks.

I was also told to be safe that once I make it to 12-13 weeks I would be given a sercolg???(when your cervix is sewed up, hate to be so blunt).

Were you ever put on the 81mg of aspirin? I was, I get mixed reviews, it seems like it goes along with the Lovenox or Heprin, I have still continued to take prenatal pills, 81mg of aspirin and folate everyday since December of 2005, If you don't mind my asking when you have your cycle do you have heavy bleeding? I bleed so bad I really think this has something to do with all the m/cs, and I also get very bad headaches.

Hope I did'nt bore you, let's keep each other posted on our findings and I pray our success to having a healthy baby very very soon! Take Care.....Tiffany....Loads of baby dust to all!!!!!

Tiffany - I got pg my first cycle after the D&C (oops, we weren't trying). I was about 29 days when I started the Lovenox and progesterone. My HCG dropped 2 days later, so I stopped the meds. My doc says next time I should start meds right after I conceive.

All my early m/c happen about 29-32 days. After four of them I started seeing an acupuncturist and I was pregnant til 10 weeks. Growth was good, we saw a heartbeat at 7 weeks, then I went for my 10 wk ultrasound and there was no heartbeat. I have been kicking myself bc my OB told me to take baby aspirin, he tells all his patients who have had miscarriages, but a pharmacist told my husband it could cause miscarriage so I got freaked out and didn't take it.

I did have one full-term pregnancy with no complications so I have a healthy little girl. I am so thankful for that but it also adds to the mystery of why I am having problems now.

I have heard of stitching the cervix, it sounds scary but I hear it's quick and not uncomfortable. I don't have heavy blood flow but I have had headaches for years and have taken B vitamins to help reduce them, I was taking B vitamins during my first pregnancy so maybe that's something that helped??? Could it be that simple?? I also took prenatal vitamins for 4 months before we started ttc.

pixi 1,

I have had two successful pregnancies, the first full term term and the second at 26 weeks, I have two beautiful daughters .

But it has been down hill since then, my youngest is 10 and the oldest is 17.

Did you have any m/cs before you had your daughter? Were they all after ?

As sad as it sounds I feel everything happens for a reason, somethings can't be explained.... and some women that are and will be wonderful mommies can't have babies! What part of life is this?

I still try to tell myself when it's the right time it will happen again for me.....The question is when???

If I were you I would do some research on the 81mg of aspirin but I believe it does help so therefore I continue to take it everyday along with the other things I mentioned.

You should also ask your doctor to start you on the shots now if you are trying to conceive, some dr's wait to get a positive reading, but mine takes precaution and starts you on them before you conceive, I took the shots for like 3-4 months before I got pregnant, I hated it....I just thought about the baby everytime I took a shot that we were trying to conceive!

Do some research if you have'nt on taking the Lovenox before conceiving and talk it over with your dr, some dr's wait to get that bfp, but I would prefer taking it before, I feel you can't be to safe especially when you have been through 2 or more m/cs!

Baby Dust to all.....Tiffany

I have tried so hard to not look at ANYTHING on the net @ my condition and my pregnancy!  I broke down and did some lookin tonight and have just @ had a cry fest reading all of this!!!! :'(
I cannot believe that so many of you are out there going through what I have!
About 2 years ago I was diagnosed w/ May-Thurner syndrome.  I was 30 yrs old and they said I was to young to have a bypass or stent, I was placed on coumadin for 6 months in hopes that the pressure would cause the vein to re-route around the blockage! Talk @ insanity!!  I was on a nuero inhibitor & pain meds and going to Wal-mart was too hard!  I finally got a 2nd opinion and that doc did a stent WRONG I wound up in intensive care and all it did was "make it mad"!  I found an article on the net about some docs at Stanford that had done studies on May Thurner! I had another stent placement at Stanford and was up the next day walkin around the mall!!
I am now 8 months pregnant and on Lovenox 2xs a day.  I am starting to be in alot of pain,(I was told the stents would "smash" during pregnancy) but I have had it alot easier that I expected!  I am havin a rapid pulse and what feels like anxiety attacks. They r sendin me to a cardioligist Thursday to check my heart. I want to have natural child birth and am hopin to not have to induce, but am prepared mentally for it if there are complications.
THANK YOU FOR BEING OUT THERE EVERYONE AND GIVING ME SOOOO MUCH MORE HOPE!

I have been diagnosed with ATII (antithrombin III).  Has anyone else had this diagnosis?  My doctor does not want to do fertility treatments, but I am desperate!  Should I go for another consult?  Has anyone had this diagnosis and gotten Clomid, etc?

PLEASE HELP

The one thing I have learned through everything I went through is do the research YOURSELF!!!! With the technology available to us on the internet now days you can learn more about an unusual disorder than your doctor, cause you are willing to put forth the effort and time to do the research.  So, learn all you can and then get as many "opinions" as you can!  The doc's don't care as much as you do!
Good Luck!

Hi, Am new to the forum and boy was I glad to see this thread , for a while there I thought I was the only one with this kind of problem.  I also have a clotting disorder that no one knows what it is - all tests have come up negative and the problem was only diagnosed 3 years ago.  Was on warfarin but am now on 80mg daily Enoxaparin (heparin) as we're trying for a baby.  Had a miscarriage at about 5 weeks earlier this year which was a bit of a shock.  I'm now concerned that my condition was the cause and that I won't have a healthy baby but I try to remain optimistic.  My period is two days late so far (and I'm always regular) so will wait another week and then do a test.  Fingers crossed that all goes well this time if it's positive.  My blood condition doesn't stop me from doing anything (other than things that are bad for me anyway such as smoking and drinking) so hope it won't stop me from becoming a Mom.  Does anyone else worry that it causing a problem?  Good luck everyone!

Hi all,
I have a blood clotting disorder.  Unfortunately no one seems to be able to pin point what it is as myself & siblings develop clots in 'unusual places'.  Even given that my siblings have both had clots the specialists still won't conceid that it is or may be genetic as all the genetic tests they know how to do have come back negative.  I am not pregnant yet but we will be trying & I didn't realize this type of problem was this common.  Good luck to you all.

Hi,
I stumbled across this site while researching MTHFR (2 duplications) and an Elevated Factor VIIIC.  My 16 year old daughter was just found to have these issues follwing blood work.  Anyone else have both Factor VIII and MTHFR?  What does it mean on a day to day basis aside from pregnancy.  I was told Factor VIII elevation leads to increase in clotting and MTHFR to an increase in neural tube defects during pregnancy.  Thanks for any info you can provide.

My problems all started when I was 17 years old.  I was healthy and very active.  I was put on birth control pills and 2 months later I noticed that my left leg had swelled up turned a blue/purple color and was killing me.  I went to the doctor that day and he told me that I had a DVT.  I was put into the hospital for 6 days on Heprin and then sent home on Warfarin.  They said that the clot went from my ankle up to my belly button.  They told me that it was caused from the birth control pills and to continue the Warfarin for 1 year.  I have had constant aches, pains and swelling in my leg ever since.  I got pregnant when I was 21 and I gave myself 2 Heprin shots each day (1 in morning and 1 at night).  I had a healthy baby girl at age 22.  After she was born I took the shots for 6 more weeks.  I was then told to take only 1 asprin per day.  Now I am 24 and in Jan. I started to have a different kind of pain in my leg. So I went back to my doctor who told me that I was fine and sent me home.  I made an appointment with a different doctor and he immediatly ordered an MRI.  He told me that I had  May Thurnner's Syndrome and after many blood tests told me that I did not have the blood clotting disorder that so many of my family members had.  I had a stint placed on Jan. 31, 2006.  I took Plavix for 2 months. He told me to take only one aspirn per day from now own and I should be fine.  I pray that he is right.  My daughter is now 2 and 1/2 years old.  My husband and I are wanting another child soon.
