Heathermac, When I had all my test done I was given the report, I would ask for a copy of your blood work. It is your right to have that. Then just look up what the report says. When I had the testing done my husband and I met with the genetic specialist and he went over everything with us. Did they do that? I am doing ok, just waiting to get through the first trimester! keep in touch

Melanie,
You know, I do get reports but all I get is the lab reports...which I don't understand. And, as I told you before, my Doc is becoming less than helpful so I may switch soon to someone who can actually answer questions I have.
I' glad to hear you are doing well - I hope you continue to have a wonderful pregnancy!! When are you due?

Melanie,
How did the ultrasound go?? I bet it was SO cool!! Tell me all about it!! I can't wait!!
You asked how I was doing...I'm in the big 2WW! UGH!! We did an IUI last Wednesday, so I test next Wednesday. This was the first cycle I actually responded well to the medication: 2 good follicles on the right, 1 on the left. It's been such a long road to even get here...I am SO grateful!!
So, now what are you doing? I have no idea what comes next for you, so I hope it's all going well and smoothly and beautifully!!!

Heathermac, well had ultrasound and it didnt' look so good, the sac was measuring 4 weeks, but she said lets wait a week and see, that was Monday, well Tuesday I started to spot and yesterday(WEd) I was in ER and lost the sac and had a D&C, I was in the same room last year on Feb 2nd when I miscarried at 8weeks. One year and one month! they think I am miscarrying because of the MTHFR factor since I have both genes when most people only have the one, so we will have to just start over. I am better than last year because I knew it was coming from the ultrasound, last year I had a good ultrasound with a heartbeat and than 2 weeks later I lost it. I don't know how many miscarries I will have to go through to have a baby, but I hope the third time is a charm. I feel ok right now, who knows in 10 minutes I might be crying! Good luck and let me know how it goes with you

Melanie,
I'm really sorry. I hope they can get a plan together for you since you have both of the genes. Thankfully, they know, and they know there is something that should be done about it.
I will keep you in my prayers.
Keep us posted.

Melanie,
Hi, I am so sorry for your loss. I too had 2 miscarriages in a row, and I also have the MTHFR gene C677T homozygous positive just like you.
My last m/c was a year ago today, I delivered a boy at 16 wks. The previous one was early 6 wks. I am really nervous I am 15 wks pg today, but I wonder in the back of my mind if it will happen again.
This is my Tx. protocal I hope it helps you since it seems to be working for me. I started taking prenatals pre conception along w/ a baby aspirin a day 81mg. I am seeing a perinatologist along w/ my OB because I am high risk due to 2 m/c in a row. I began taking the lovenox at 7 wks after a u/s confirmed viability ( heartbeat). My High risk Dr. started me on Foltx a prescription that contains folic acid, B6,B12 all the things that the MTHFR depletes and I still take my reg. prenatal, but no baby aspirin. and 2000mg of calcium a day he says the shots can cause osteopenia where your bones get brittle. I totally feel like he knows his stuff and I also have weekly u/s which I love. That keeps me sane. I dont know if this helps at all, but I thought if mabey I would try.
Again I am so sorry, I know the disappointment you feel and I hope you will heal in time.
My thoughts are w/ you, Marla

Marla Thank you for the support! I am too sorry for your two losses. When I had the genetic testing done, the specialist put me on Folbee, pre-natal and baby aspirin, he told me to stay on all of those whether I am pregnant or not, he said just getting me on the extra folic acid just added 20years to my life, folic plays a big roll in heart disease, cancer and other health problems. He then said as soon as I believe I am pregnant to have it confirmed and start lovenox twice a day. So for a year I had been on the folbee, aspirin and pre-natal and I started the lovenox 2 days after a postive pregnancy test at the office.( I also started calcium) I really thought this pregnancy would be fine because I had done everything I was suppose to! It helps to know there are other women who have this to give me some hope. My thoughts are with you on your pregnancy and it sounds like you are doing great and I am sure your pregnancy will continue and you will have a healthy beautiful baby! Thanks again, let me know how things are going!

Well my Dr. explained it to me that with the MTHFR it causes microscopic clotting of the blood and can form clots in the cord or placenta which can cause m/c. He said I have a risk of throughing a clot post delivery, so I will continue to take the lovenix for 6 wks post delivery.
It looks like you have a double whammy! My prayers are with you girl..
I also had a daughter that I concieved naturally that passed away Oct.02 at 15 mths from complications from Leukemia. I didnt have any problems w/ that pregnancy, but they said alot of times you get a freebe, then its over. It took us 6 cycles of IUI to get pg this time. Thank you for your support, and I hope the next time you have a happy ending.
There is nothing better than to be a mom. Its so rewarding, and when those little arms rap around your neck, it over. I feel this way and my child was sick. It was really hard, but so worth it. She was diagnosed at 8 wks old, so nothing was normal.
Well, I hope your holding up ok, I will be praying for a term pregnancy w/ a healthy baby.

Hi, everyone I just found this site, while I'm supposed to be working . I have had 3 miscarriages over the last three years. With all of them, we saw the heartbeat at six weeks, and then at my 13 week ultrasound, it showed that the baby had stopped growing around 6 1/2 weeks so I had to have D&C's with all of them. I did the whole workup and we found out I have Factor V Leiden (heterozygous). To make a long story short. I am now pregnant again and they put me on Lovenox (30 mg) and progesterone suppositories as soon as I found out (4 weeks). I have an ultrasound next week (6 weeks) to see if there's a heartbeat. I am praying every second that this will be the one. If anyone out there is in a similar situation, please let me know.

Rachael you have come to a wonderful site with a great support system, there are alot caring women in similar situations. Now that they know what you have this pregnancy sounds promising! The levonox should stop the placenta from clotting so that the pregnancy will continue. My thoughts and prayers are with you! Let me know how your ultrasound goes!

Marla, I have a follow up in 2weeks to discuss everything and I just don't know how many miscarriages I will have to go through. I am hoping there is something else they can do. Once again I am so sorry for what you had to go through with your little girl. I can't wait to be a mom and hold my child. I know when that finally happens that child will be so spoiled! It just takes us so long to get pregnant, and they make you sound so old when you are 35 and trying to get pregnant! keep in touch

I'm 26 years old now with a clotting disorder but I had my first child at 20. I had my second child at 22. The second day of her life i noticed she was jerking her little arms and legs. The doctors noticed the same thing and they discovered she had suffered a stroke though a cat scan she had at the hospital. I was sent for genetic counseling days later. She is ok now but has to take folic acid for the rest of her life. I tried for another child two years later but had a miscarriage even when i was taking folic acid at 3 1/2 months. We tried again and my daughter was born 9/22/04 with no problems. The whole family had genetic counseling and it turned out it came from both families! They thought i was related to my husband but that it was impossible, our ancestors were from different countries. Now, we could only rely on a healthy diet and folic acid!
