Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has a blood-clotting disorder (thrombophilia) and has been or is trying to become pregnant
with their disorder.  I have hereditary protein C deficiency (heterozygous)- one of the more rare types.

Other types of blood-clotting disorders are ATIII deficiency, protein S deficiency, Factor V Leiden mutation, APC resistance, Antiphospholipid Antibodies, Anticardiolipin Antibodies, Lupus Anticoagulant, Elevated Homocysteine.

Hi Cheryl,

I have the MTHFR (methalyne  hydrfolate reductase) heterozygous.  It is a clotting disorder. During pregnancy i will have to do heparin (levonox) injections. I have been pregnant twice, before I knew of this the 1st time resulted in a baby girl (great pregnancy). The 2nd time I delivered at 4 months a boy stillborn, and had a previous 1st trimester miscarrage 6 months before i became pregnant again. That is when my Dr. did the genetic testing to check for a problem. So its definitly poss. to conceive with these issues. We are currently in the process to try again.

Good luck I hope this helps!

I am currently 4 1/2 months pregnant and just got out of the hospital for a blood clot.  After doing testing they have found a genetic reason but they are still doing more tests this week to determine exactly what is going on.  I delivered my daughter 6 years ago with no problem.  We did not know of this underlying issue at that time.    I am taking the Lovenox injections for the next 7 months and hoping everything goes well from here.  I probably will not try  for a third baby however.

Hi all,
I have a blood clotting disorder.  Unfortunately no one seems to be able to pin point what it is as myself & siblings develop clots in 'unusual places'.  Even given that my siblings have both had clots the specialists still won't conceid that it is or may be genetic as all the genetic tests they know how to do have come back negative.  I am not pregnant yet but we will be trying & I didn't realize this type of problem was this common.  Good luck to you all.

I am 6 months pregnant and have been injecting myself with Lovenox for about 3 months now.  I have the MTHFR problem, specifically the C677T mutation.  I developed a HUGE clot during my first pregnancy.  I was hospitalized and luckily everything turned out okay, though I had to take coumadin (warfarin) for 8 months after my daughter was born.

I'd love to compare stories/share support with those who also have to take Lovenox.  I'm finding that the injections are not as bad as I had anticipated.  After I gave myself the first one and got over the novelty of it, the process became old hat fairly quickly.  Really not that bad.  My big problem is that I keep thinking I'll develop another clot anyway, and that I won't have any symptoms so they won't find it 'til it's too late.  I guess it's natural to be a little fearful, yes?

I have been through 2 miscarriages.  My last one in Sept. 2004.  We went to a hemotologist today and found out that I also have the MTFHR (C77T & A1298).  I also have Rheumotoid Arthritis and the list goes on and on.  Anyway he told me that I would have to take Levenox.  After finding out the cost of Levenox I don't know if my husband and I can afford it.  Does anyone know of a cheaper option?  Doesn't asprin do the same?  Thanks for anyone's input.  Lisa

Hi,
I was diagnosed with anticardiolipin syndrome(antiphospholipid antibodies), after 2nd miscarriage. I was treated with 3rd pregnancy with fragmin, but also resulted in miscarriage, due to blighted ovum. I became pregnant again, and now have a healthy 7 1/2 mo baby. I was treated with fragmin injections daily, throughout the pregnancy and was successful. I have not researched any future problems that I might have, due to clotting (other than pregnancy related).....though it probably wouldn't hurt. But, long story short...Just believe that God will deliver, I have living proof, and He is a miracle!

Hi.  I have 2 genetic clotting defects- something having to do with PAI and something else involving folic acid.  We have been trying to get pregnant since last May and have had no luck.  I'm about to turn 36 and this is probably the problem.  I was told I would use Lovenox also but another doctor put me on Heparin instead.  It is alot cheaper and the doc likes it because it can be readily reversed if overdosed.  So I give myself the shots and take aspirin and folic acid.  I've been pregnant 5 times.  First 2 - early miscarriage.  3rd time was the charm - my beautiful miracle son.  He is 4 now and had trouble with developmental delays but he is really the joy of my life.  The last 2 were also early miscarriages - all before they knew what was wrong.  I'm worried about the complications if I were to get pregnant and not miscarry.  Does anyone know what the chances are of complications that could hurt the baby farther along in pregnancy?  Please respond.

Hello,
I have stumbled onto this site while researching miscarriages, I have had 2 miscarriges in 6 months both at 10 weeks of gestation, both I had normal ultrasounds and 8 weeks.  I had my last D and C before CHristmas and I am now ready to research, my doctor told me that I have to have 3 misscarriages to get proper testing so I am researching for myself.  My biggest problem with my doctors is that I have 2 healthy children ages 6 and 3, I am told that my body should not have changed so that I can no longer carry a child to term, but I think that something is wrong.  The e-mails I have read on this site have resulted in my arranging a blood work-up to test for a blood clotting disorder.  I can see that there are a number of women who have had children and still suffered miscarriages as a result of a blood clotting disorder.  There is also a lot of research occuring in this field and many fertility clinics think that blood clotting disorders is one of the biggest contributors to multiple miscarriages.  Thank you for posting your insight it is very helpful to those searching for answers.

Iam a 24 year old. Ihave a 5 yr old and a 2 year old son. After them I have suffered 2 miscarriages last one in aug 04 losing twins at 11 weeks.  I just found out I have mthfr homozygote.  Iam taking aspirin, folic acid and will take lovenox injections when I become pregnant.  Is there anyone that feels lovenox has helped them substain a pregnancy?  Would love to hear from anyone that suffers from the same problem.

Hi. I am 32 and I also have a clotting disorder.  I had a miscarriage 3 years ago.  I became pregnant again 3 months later and I developed a clot while I was pregnant at 9 weeks.  I was hospitalized for 10 days and put on a heparin drip.  I was sent home with Lovenox injections.  They worked wonderfully for me.  I have a healthy 22 month old daughter to prove every injection was well worth it.  My husband and I are getting ready to try for Baby #2 and I will go back to my specialist to get on the Lovenox again.  it is really importnat that you get on it before you conceive (if you currently take Coumadin) You cannot take Coumadin while pregnant, it will lead to a miscarriage.  It is a scary thing to think about, but once those beautiful babies are born...it is all worth it!

Just had a question for anyone taking or planning to take lovenox injections. I have heard some people say their doctor recomends taking lovenox before becoming pregnant.  My doctor said he won't be putting me on it until they see a fetal heart beat.  Should this be something to be concerned about?
