Hi all. I've been getting the support and understanding from all of you that I've needed and it's been great. I was thinking I feel like I know you. But then I was thinking, I only know about how nice you are and about your desire for a child and the history behind that. Would anyone care to tell a little bit more? I completely understand if you dont but I thought it would be great to hear about some of the other aspects of your lives.
For me: I'm a Cost Accountant and an Accts. Payable Supervisor of one great girl. I live in a house we had built 4 years ago in a very quiet town with my DH, two teens and absolutely adorable and lovable Boxers named Jake and Cleo. They've been my babies for a year and a half now and I can't imagine my life without those cuties. I love going to movies, shopping with my girls and playing with my dogs. I'm a big fan of the shows ER, The Apprentice and Desperate Housewives. I'm a pretty emotional person and am concerned that all I'll do is cry when I start the meds for my IVF. Oops, I mentioned IVF...I guess I can't talk about me without mentioning that too since it's such a big part of me now. Anyway, hope I didn't bore you....just thought it would be nice to know more than just the fertility part of you wonderful ladies. karen

Karen Hi. This is a great idea.
I work for the Durban City Council (SA), as a Gender and Youth Programmes Manager. DH and I live in a house we also built a year ago. I am home alone at least twice a month, DH runs his own labour broking co, and goes around visiting clients in the middle and end of the month (2 days each time). We have a superlovely German Shepard named Boykie, he's tooo cute. I like going to the movies (no time lately), travelling and shopping. I don't have a lot of friends but I meet my two closest ones for coffee, braai or house visits at least once a month, but we talk a lot on the phone. My favourite shows include GirlFriends, Everybody loves Raymond and I am soccer crazy.
Pleased to know you better.

Karen and Deb,
My name is Maria and I'm 32 yrs. old, (33yrs. on the 4th of July). I live in WA. and been here about 2 yrs. ( IT RAINS ALOT), not use to the weather yet. We live here for the fact that my husband is in the Navy and was looking for Shore Duty Orders, wich means he doesn't have to go out to sea. We moved here from California. I was born in Texas, but moved to Ca. when I was about 7, and have lived there until recently. I have 7 brothers and 2 sisters and my mother, and my father is deceased. My husband is from Philidelphia. We met through friends. We are going to be celebrating our 2nd Anniversary 12th of July, but been together for 3 1/2 yrs. I have a son from my first marriage, his name is Kennedy and he is 11yrs. old. I work as a Pediatric Nurse, planning to go back to school and hopefully become a Psychologist someday. I have stage 3 endometriosis wich is making it difficult for me to conceive. Working in Pediatrics is hard for me for the fact of infertility, especially when on injections. But I love being around children so I continue @ my job. And my hobbies are sewing, decorating, and baking. I'm pretty much boring.LOL.

Hi ladies, As you know I am 44 years old. I have been a nurse for 19 years. I work with IV patients and mostly geriatric homecare. I love being a nurse. I have also done labor and delivery.
I am in my second (and last) marriage of 4 years. My husband is a pilot and we met at work when I was a flight nurse. We bought a new house in 02 and are putting a yard and a garden in at this time. I love yardwork, painting rooms, scrapbooking, hiking, shopping, talking with friends and just spending time alone.
I love Law and Order and CSI Las Vegas.
I have 3 labs and 3 cats and 3 fish. Hopefully I don't have 3 kids in one shot. HA ! I love walking my dogs in the mountains every day. One is black, chocolate and yellow.
Take care, look forward to all the stories.

Hi ladies. I have to say I truly enjoyed reading your stories. It's so nice to know a litle more about you. What interesting jobs you have! I'm not surprised at all that you work in fields that help people. Maria32, you are not boring at all! To me just the fact that you lived in 2 states makes you interesting! I have lived in Connecticut my whole life. And I don't think I'll ever leave. My whole family is here.
I am the 7th of 8 children. There are now 17 grandchildren in our family and I sure hope to add to that #. It's nice to hear you ladies have pets. Isn't it amazing how much we love them? It may seem silly to you but one of my concerns about having a baby is that my dogs will be neglected. They've just been such a big part of my life over the past 1 1/2 to 2 years. I spoil them rotten and play with them every day before and after work. Well, I would imagine a child would add to their playtime after a while!
I guess the most interesting thing I ever did was to be on a mia/pow hot air balloon chase crew. So, I flew 4 times. The most exciting thing I ever did was go on a Disney cruise with 21 members of my family. Greatest vacation of my life. Swam with dolphins and stingrays....just wonderful. Well thank you very much for sharing! I really enjoyed getting to know you better. Karen

Hi Karen, I just turned 31 on June 9th, Dh is 30. We live in Michigan.
I went to a Lutheran Private school from K-12th. Met my dh in 94, he is from MI also, he took a job at Boeing designing airplanes in Seattle, we lived there for 2 years. We got married in 97 and then moved back to MI in 99 and he is now a designer for General Motors.
I was working for 5 1/2 years in the accounting department and got laid off 4 days before Christmas 04. Our company was sold to another company need I say more. I will find another job if I don't become pg in the next few months.
We live in a house with a parrot named squeaky that we got in Seattle, a girl pug named Sue Lee, but we call her little Chue.
I love traveling, we try to go someplace different every year. I love scrapbooking, I get together with some of my girlfriends every Tuesday. It so relaxing to do scrapbooking.
I have a wonderful, loving sister who is 36 and she has 2 girls 10 & 11 that I spoil to death! On dh side I have 3 nephews and 1 neice.
I have 5 girlfriends from grade school that I still hang out with, they are like my sisters.
I have a really great personality and I pretty much laugh at anything. I'm really easy going.
Hope this isn't too long, thanks for taking the time to find out a little about us.

Hi ladies,
I just turned 31 on May 25; dh is 30. We are both structural engineers. We actually met at work but have both moved to different companies since. We were friends for ~15 months, dated 9 months, were engaged for 14, and have been married now for 3 year this past April. He is my absolute soul mate And has been my rock through all this infertility stuff.
I also have 2 dogs. Diesel is a 200-lb English mastiff and a momma's boy He was the baby I got when I had my first m/c. And boy has he served as my sweet cuddly baby ever since. I'm afraid his feelings will be hurt when he gets a (real) baby brother or sister. We also adopted a retired racing greyhound named Calvin after my 2nd m/c. Sensing a trend??? But my dh put his foot down after the 2. So I didn't get another dog after my 3rd or 4th Which is for the best b/c Diesel takes quiet a bit of room! LOL
I love hiking, tennis, long walks, reading, spending time with girlfriends (my favorite!), and traveling. Although I prefer to go tropical for my vacations. I've been to Cancun/Mexico 4 times aready!!! And will probably go again if this cycle doesn't turn out a BFP.
I'm originally from the Boston area, but now live in Maryland. We bought our dream home ~16 months ago and still have empty rooms! Hopefully the nursery will be our next investment

Karen- Great idea for a thread!
I am Meridith and I am 36 and I live in Massachusetts with my DH who is 40 and my son who is 7 and my little Jack Russell named Wishbone who is 3. lol
My profession is early childhood development and that has taken me many places as far as positions of work. I have worked at Head Start, private preschools as well as a day care center. I liked the private preschool the best as it was structured yet I was free to develop my own lesson plans. I am currently a stay at home mom. It was my dream ever since I was 10 and someone told me I would make a great mom someday and I thought, 'I can make a baby?' From then on, I was hooked on the idea of it as I have always loved kids.
I have 2 boxes full of Stampin' Up! stuff that I bought over the course of a year. I have made a few greeting cards but nothing substantial yet. I keep telling myself that when the fall comes and it's getting chilly outside, I will start doing more. I love spending time with my son and wrestle with being a normal mom while inside I feel like the days are slipping by as he is already 7. I honestly feel like it's been about 2 or 3 years. Not 7!
We have our own house in a small town with a great school system and my husband is a certified arborist. He is totally an outdoors person and loves the woods and things whereas I love a 5 star hotel. We compromise though...he and little guy camp in the yard and I stay in and have the tv all to myself!
I have a best friend who I met when we were 4 and we are still best friends today. We grew up 20 miles from where I live now and get this....we bought our houses exactly 1 mile apart. She lives in this town too! We always dreamed it would be like this and it is. Amazing. Our husbands get along well too which is an added bonus!
Ok, I think I spilled enough to write a book! I love reading all about everyone, this is great!

Hi girls.....oh where to start. I am 37 and dh is 31. Dh is a computer software engineer and consultant. I am a portait photographer for a studio that photographs high school seniors and families. It's a great job and I love the creativity. I have been in the business for 18 years already! Working with all the young ladies and gentlemen keeps me young! We just opened a new super studio in the Chicago suburbs so I have been having a lot of fun working there lately.
We have two adorable cats, Bunker and Kelsey. Bunker thinks he is a dog I swear....running to answer the doorbell constantly. He is so active and I believe he thinks the staircase was designed for him personally by NASCAR. He is going to give himself a concussion one of these days. Kelsey, unfortunately, is on her last leg. She is 16 yrs. old and has some kidney and heart problems. I fear we will be saying goodbye to her soon.
I enjoy walking, yoga, reading, cooking, entertaining, gardening, shopping, movies, reality tv, (the Bachelor is my favorite. I know, I know! ) playing with my cats, and of course, photography. I also love all the the HBO shows like the Sopranos and Six Feet Under.
We bought our home in the Chicago suburbs 2 yrs ago in a very friendly and established neighborhood. We acually have annual block parties! It's great to meet all the neighbors. I have spent the past 2 years landscaping, decorating, painting rooms and buying funiture. (I never knew buying furniture could be soooo stressful!) The only room left if the potential nursery. I am keeping it empty and unpainted for the time being with big hopes that I can start planning for that in the near future.
I would describe myself as caring, easygoing, easy to laugh, very silly, and fun to be with. I am also a homebody that loves quiet evenings with the dh in front of the fire.
I have had some really bad experiences with a group of my friends and infertility that have caused me to really recoil and cocoon. I never would have dreamed that "friends" could be so unbelievabley cruel. I really hate that since I have always been pretty social. I think it's just what I need to do right now.........self preservation I suppose. Infertility, I can say without a doubt, has been the most difficult thing I have had to deal with in my life. I am sure someday....when this thing is over and done with, I will return to my good old self!
You ladies are awesome. I really enjoy coming online and sharing this journey with wonderful women who understand. This thread is a great way to get to know each other better. Sorry this is so long ladies!

Hey! This is so cool...I feel like I've known many of you for a while, and now it seems the stories behind the women make perfect sense!! The picture is now complete!!
So, as for me, well, I'm 36 and DH is 35. We met through mutual friends...friends I've had since grade school. I was always friends with the guys because I rode motorcycles and would go off and have fun with them, and their girlfriends wouldn't...so I always had tons of friends and fun. I've actually managed to maintain those friendships even now. Though, now I have to say I'm closer to their wives than I am with them...especially given the infertility portion of the program.
DH & I were totally made for each other. Neither one of us takes too much terribly seriously, except this fertility business. We were friends first, got to know each other and when it happend, it happened and we've never looked back!! We are so close, and while we have our ups and downs, I thank God every day for him...because I dated some REAL losers that I am grateful I never married. WHEW!!!
We have a feisty 14 year old cat named Echo, whom I adore and place just as highly as DH. Echo and I were together for years before DH came along, so the pecking order may be a bit skewed. Wow, I sound crazy don't I?? But, I went through some really tough times before DH came along and Echo was there the whole time...so I don't think it's THAT crazy.
DH left his job as a computer tech to be a cop. We lived in Chicago for while where he found LOTS of computer work (his speciality is Macintosh), but when we moved back to Cincinnati, well, no Macs. So, he's a cop. Nice transition! As for me, I was going to be a television producer, but ended up in radio instead and now do commercial voice overs for a living. So, really, I just get paid to talk... a job DH will tell you I am tremendously overqualified for.
Infertility took from us more than I could have ever imagined - years of our life, money we'll never get back, time we should have spent together in love rather than apart and scared. But, I feel it has also made me, and DH, far wiser...wiser about what is really important and what really matters. When it comes to trivial B.S., I am totally enthralled with my newfound ability to now tell someone, "That really doesn't mean a damn thing to me." and not feel bad about not caring about crap that really doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things. I can now say "NO" with confidence...mean it...and NOT feel guilty about it! I'm just sorry this was how I had to find my spine.
Well, girls, I've babbled on enough. It's just fun to see what truly incredible women we are - gathered here hoping to use our powers for good. I wish we had met at a conference for women trying to solve the world's problems, but I am more than grateful we met here. I would not have survived without the support of this site and the women who offer their experience, strength and hope.
XOXO HeatherMac

Sorry its been so long since I have been on here. I came a while back but the boards were all messed up. I also recently just moved to a new apartment.. so ive been busy..I think it's great that everyone has put their stories out there, now it's time for mine...
Im 18 years old, and engaged to one of the best men I have ever met. We have been together almost 3 years. We live in an apartment in Maryland with our 2 dogs. A shih-tzu named Kibbles and a miniature chihuahua named Hercules.. They are my children.. As for work I do childcare 45hours a week for my cousin, and 30 hours for my sister. My cousins son is a little over a year and very bad.. and my sisters sons are 1, 3, and 5. It's definately a lot of work. I think im healing pretty well from the miscarriage, but I am still trying to conceive. Being around all the children just makes me want one more. I get criticized for being 18, unmarried, and trying to get pregnant. But my fiance and I have decided that this is what we want. When not occupied with other things I spend my spare time (lately) Playing Super Nintendo until I die, then taking a 2 mile walk.. (I started a diet, and it seems these are the only things that keep me from "im bored -eating"). When Im not doing that I spend time with my fiance or my mother... I dont lead a very exciting life.. but it's good enough for me..
|
Im 18..Fiance' is 20. First pregnancy stopped growing at 6wks6days-(2/17/05), found out 2/24/05, had d&c on 2/25/05. TTC in April-BFN. May-BFN. June-BFN. July-BFN. Will test on August 31...

Hi ladies,
I am an IT manager at a financial services firm. I have been there for 16 years now. DH is a carpenter.
We have a 2 year old dog named Riley. He is the most amazing dog and he has filled our lives with joy since we got him from the shelter. I met my husband through a mutual friend. He did some work on my townhouse and we became friends. 2 1/2 years later, we got married and bought a house. We have been trying to have a child ever since.
We love to cook dinner together and watch movies. We also love to go out with friends or hang out by the pool and bbq. I love to shop...for anything. We are both pretty easy going.
This was a great idea, Karen.

Hi, my name is Annie and my husband and I are now just starting to seriously consider IVF. Trying to learn more about it but I don't know of any resources or people who have gone through this procedure.
Jim my husband and I were married this year. We have both been divorced and have 4 children between us and now we would like one of our own. Shortly before my divorce from my ex husband, I had my tubes tied. I thought I would never want to be with anyone again nor did I ever think someone would want to marry me so I thought that tying my tubes wouldn't be a problem, well everything's different now.
Is there any kind of information you can share with me about IVF? Resources, contacts? I live in Texas and really don't know where to start. I would appreciate any help or advice from you.

Annie, I did IVF this year. It was a hard decision to make emotionally and financially but I think once you decide that it's the way to go for you and your family, you commit yourself and go for it. I started with research on line. I considered a tubal reversal and paid for a consultation over the phone with a doctor who does them but my regular ob/gyn said I had a better chance with IVF since I'm 39 years old. I think every situation is very unique and you need to really think hard and long and make your decision. IVF was the hardest thing I've ever been through. I have pretty bad ARthritis and had to give up my pain medicine for this and that wasn't easy. I also was terrified of shots and really had a big adjustment to make to get myself to do it but here I am with two miracles growing inside me. I wish you the best. Good luck to you in making your dream come true no matter what you decide. Karen
