Hi everyone I'm just curious to see if anyone else has to take or is still taking progesterone past the first trimester? I feel like my doctor is just working me for labs and visits for nothing. I was supposed to be off progesterone shots a week ago and now they say I could have to stay on in for awhile. They gave me no reason and my progesterone level has been between 30 and most of the time 56. I feel this clinic is just out for more of my money. Have any of you had any experience like this? Thanks for your input. Paige
I'm 31 and have gone through 2 cycles and now my third cycle which is a frozen one. I have pcos a plugged tube and possible endometrosis. I have been married five years and trying for the third time and last and now going through ivf agian!
Paige Have you graduated to your OB yet? I was on Progesterone in Oil injections for 10 weeks of pregnancy and was told by my new OB that I could stop about a week before that time. I chose to do the final week, no chances taken!
How far along are you? Between 10 and 12 weeks, the placenta starts producing the progesterone needed to maintain the pregnancy. Did you have an u/s? Perhaps the placenta is still on the small side. It's best to ask questions of the doctor until you get the answers you need or get a 2nd opinion if you feel your confidence with him/her is not where it should be.
36 years old. Married for 17 years. 1 son, 7 years old, conceived w/ ICSI. 2nd IVF w/ ICSI in June=No Fertilization. August cycle cancelled for poor response. Considering options.
Hi Meridith, I am 11 weeks right now and I have had 3 u/s appts and all three showed a strong preg and a heartbeat. That is why I think the doctor just wants our money. I think he wants to keep me on progesterone another 3 to 4 weeks. He has lied about a lot and taken a lot more money than he told us it would be.

Is this your OB or your infertility doctor doing this?? The reason I ask is because many of the women here were released to their OB around 7 or 8 weeks...just wondering if you might want to call your OB and get in with them and out from under the care of a doctor with whom you're not terribly confident.
Meridith is right - it is best to ask questions of your doctor, or, get rid of him and a second opinion. If you're going to go the second opinion route, it will be easy to get in with another OB if you're pregnant and need prenatal care.
Hi Heather I've already seen my Ob twice but didn't think this would be a problem. I figured I was finishing up with the fertility doctor by week 10. So actually since week 6 I have been with two doctors. The Ob has done preg work-up and the fertility doc waas supposed to be finishing up my shots. I know i had slight bleeding for a few minutes only at week 7 that's why I let the meds go on for longer but to keep me on them for 13 to 15 weeks doesn't that sound like they are just trying to get me money? They charge me $130 a week for blood and they were trying to get me to do more us's at $270 but I told them my Ob would do it. I can't ask my Ob about the bloodwork for another month so i feel like I'm stuck with the fertility doctor for the next month!!

Actually, I'd put a call in to your OB's office. There's no sense in waiting a month for a second opinion!!
If you have time tomorrow, call and talk to him. Don't let the nurses push you around and tell you they'll take care of it...tell them you need to talk to him to get a second opinion about treatment your RE has put you on.
Yeah, I'd be a little suspect of the whole stringing you along ordeal, but that's just me. He's not doing anything for you that your OB can't do...but you REALLY need to check with the OB about that. I quit medical school so I'm not qualified to give you that kind of advice.
Thanks Heather it is impossible to get a hold of the fertility doc and he's going to say the sme as his nurse. My OB is probly going to tell me to finish up with the other doc first. that's how Kaiser is. I wonder if I should refuse the blood test and tell them just to tell me how to taper down off the meds. I have a feeling if I don't he will just keep getting money out of us for another month or so. I just don't want to screw the preg up.
