I just got back from u/s #2 and I can still hardly believe it but they saw the heartbeat at 121 bpm. I didn't think I would, but I cried right there. I have never seen a heartbeat for any of my pregnancies. They said that all measurements were very good.

As usual with me and hubby, everything happens at once. Right when it looks like we might have a viable pregnancy he gets a job in DC and will be commuting weekly. So, I have to go it alone during most of my appointments which is making me kind of emotional. Also, we will have to put our house on the market and move hopefully before the baby comes. Anyone from the DC area and have a good OB?

LIndsay and Julie - Congratulations...I am so glad to hear that all is well with the little miracles that are growing in your bellies...Julie where do you live now?...I live in Hanover Pa and am from Maryland originally...You may want to look for something in the MOntgomery or Howard County areas if you move...Unless of course you are used to the hustle and bustle of the city...Washington DC is a busy city to live in but also great to visit with the museums and history....The baby will enjoy visits there if you are still living in that area when he/she gets old enough to enjoy the zoo and Air musuem or even visti the Georgetown area...Maybe after your little one is born next year the families can meet there for dinner or something....

Ladies not only did I cry but also DH and grandma when we saw the heartbeat...We had never seen one either for any of our pregnancies (2 before)...I would not worry about the weight loss during the first trimester...I would have rather lost then gained the amount that I did even before confirming the pregnancies...This was the first time that the fertility medicine made me gain weight...

Glad to hear all is well...Are we still waiting on one more u/s report?...Talk to you all later.

Thanks to all! I do think there were others having u/s today. I hope everything goes well for them.

Jenny - we are in Cherry Hill, NJ just outside of Philly. We have been down to DC the last few weekends and it does seem like a great city. For his job, we have to live within the District because it's a city gov't job. We had neighbors who just moved to Frederick MD but they are the only people we know down there. We were excited about it at first but now with the baby it seems crazy. But, I'm sure all will work out for the best.

Lindsay - congrats!! Somehow I didn't see your post earlier. I know what you mean about being scared. I had completely convinced myself that they would have bad news for me. It's probably some kind of defense mechanism!

I think you are a week or two ahead of me. I am just over 6 weeks now. I don't get another u/s for 2 weeks also. When the nurse said that I looked at her like she was crazy. I'm so used to going to that clinic every third day!

Julie - yeah DC is a great city and beautiful...I love all of the old architecture...It makes the buildings absolutely beautiful...There is so much history there...You may want to try Shady Grove....They are part of the fertility center that I used in Towson and should not be far from the DC area...YOu can check out their website and see what type of services other then fertility that they provide...It is a world reknowned hospital...People come from across theUnited States to use the fertility center there...It may be worth looking into....If not George Washigton Hospital, Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center are all good hospitals in the DC area....They maybe worth checking into...Hope this is of help to you....Talk to you soon.

Julie-I cannot believe you live in Cherry Hill!  I live in Philly but work in Jersey (Hainesport).  Are you at Cooper IVF?  I participated in a free Serono IVF study and was lucky enough to get pregnant.  We had done 5 IUIs prior to that with no success.  It is such a small world!!

By the way, do you know any good obgyns in the city?  I refuse to return to my old office bc of mistakes they made with my last miscarriage.  Cooper Center does not have good recs for the city (I don't know why).

DC is a LONG commute-we have done some fun day trips there...

Hi ladies!

Lisa - welcome home...hope your trip went well.

I'm glad to hear all the ultrasounds went well.  Mine went well also.  We actually got to hear the heartbeat today!  The tech turned up the volume on the internal u/s machine and had me hold my breath and we were able to hear the baby!  It was amazing!!!!!!  I kept asking her to let us hear it again, I didn't want to leave.  the heartbeat was at 139 bpm and everything looks on target.  we were released (or graduated as the nurse says) from the fertility center.  Our first appointment with our OB is on Saturday unfortunately my husband will be out of town so I have to go by myself.    I can't wait for the next u/s.

Jenny - what can we expect at our first OB appointment?

Julie - I am sure you mentioned before but i can't remember...how many weeks are you?

What is everyone's due dates?  I am June 27th.

Hey ladies - I am doing well and the little prince is moving around mostly at night...Well lets see if I can remember about the first OB appointment...You should or can expect to be there for a little while...You should receive a packet of information like the lanor and delivery rules for when you deliver...A list of medications that are safe during pregnancy...If you don't get one of those there is one posted from when I went to my first appointment that I shared with everyone...You may or may not get to hear the heartbeat via the doppler...Most OB's say that you can't hear it before week 10 or so with their machines...You will be given your official due date...You will also receive a lab slip...He/she will go over her pregnancy timeline of how often you are to have an appointment...HE/she may recommend a first trimester screening...That is a genetics u/s that measures the nuchal trnaslucency of the baby's neck to see what your odds are of trisomy 13, trisomy 18 and down syndrome...I had one done only because it is a chance to see the baby before your next doctor's appointment which will most likely be 4 weeks after your initial appointment...You will be weighed, blood pressure checked...Oh by the way get used to peeing in a cup at every visit before even tlaking to the doctor...It checks your urine for sugar level and protein....You may get a goodie bag of all types of prenatals to try that a prescription can be written for...You will most likely have a pap smear...Don't worry it is perfectly safe...Your cervix will be checked and then they will talk to you in their office and most likely also go over all the different types of testing they have and which ones are needed and which ones are voluntary...The first trimester screening is voluntary but gives you good information...For example based on my results with this pregnancy I have a 1 in 10,000 chance of having a baby with Downs Syndrome...I believe that is pretty much what we did and then our next appointment was scheduled for 4 weeks later...That is worse then the 2 week wait...You may also get the opportunity depending on weight to have your first glucose test (the hour long one)...It is not too bad...

Everyone - I got back my Triple Screen Test and all the blood serum values are perfectly within normal range....I was so happy...By the way this test is also called the Multiple Marker test and the AFP test...Some doctor's may refer to it as either one of them...Also there is one called the Quad Marker test...But you don't take this particular test until between weeks 15 and 20...they recommend to go between 16 and 18 weeks..

Hope this was of help to all of you...Congratulations on graduating to the next phase of your journey.

Danielle - don't be nervous...This is the best part and you are in a whole new world...No longer in the familiar environment of the fertility clinic...However, it is a wonderful new world...Just remember that you are going to be a mommy and this is an event worth it...If you feel better take a book so you can take notes so daddy can be a part as well...He is a police officer right?...Either way ask him if there is a question or two that he wants you to ask for him or does he want to wait until the next appointment to ask himself...Also you can try to see if he is not too busy that maybe when you are actually in the office talking to the doctor maybe he can be put on speaker phone so he can feel a part of it...There are many ways to include him even if he is not physically there...I am sure your OB will understand why you want your DH to be a part even if it means by speaker phone...Talk to you later.

Great idea jenny, Thanks!  I'll have to see about speaker phone.  I am glad that we were able to hear the heartbeat today so he wouldn't miss the first time!

He is a police officer and gets called into work a lot for overtime.  I am hoping i won't have to do a lot of the appointments alone.  Luckily his regular schedule is pretty set so as long as he doesn't get called in I will know exactly when to schedule appointments.

thanks for all your advice!  I have plenty of friends who have kids but it's nice to hear the advice from someone who has also been through this IVF journey.
