Hello Dr. Smith: been doing some more reading and came across an article (http://www.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn4266) in NEW Scientist posted in 2003 about work done in China. It caused some contreversy at the time and it seems all research came to a screeching halt in the US and China due to some fears.
An excerpt reads "The eggs produced by this nuclear transfer had genetic material from three people - nuclear DNA from the man and woman who created the pronuclei and mitochondrial DNA from the woman donating the second egg."
Is this a totally non-viable avenue now? It read as promising in some regards...
"Problems with mitochondrial DNA can cause infertility or disease and it was to try to solve this problem that the research was done."
