This morning I had another doctor’s appointment with Dr Seal. At the first appointment he didn’t have any of my blood work, we went solely off my symptoms and such and he stated he was 100% sure I have PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) but wanted to see the work they had done back in April when the other doctor told me there was nothing wrong with me. So I got a copy of my blood work and my ultra sound and went in for my second appointment this morning. He took a look at the ultra sound and just laughed, I could hear him outside the door talking to the nurse talking about how whoever read the ultra sound earlier had no idea what they were talking about. He came in and had me look at them with him. He said my right ovary has some small cysts; my left ovary has a large cyst. He does not know how on earth I could be told that my ultra sounds were normal. He then reviewed my blood work and confirmed it shows classic signs of PCOS, and apologized for what I went through with the other doctor. He said my thyroid is borderline and wants to keep an eye on it, he said I have a very low metabolism which combined with the insulin resistance associated with PCOS is a big factor in my weight. We are increasing my Metformin dose tonight to 1000 mgs for 2 weeks, then after 2 weeks he wants me to increase it to 1500 mgs. Then the fun part! They stuck me in the butt with a shot of progesterone. They are going to induce a period, and I will go back on day 3 of my period for what they call a day 3 ultra sound, and then back in 12 days after starting for blood work. He also stated he will be putting me on either Clomid, or another drug I cant remember the name to start ovulation…. and we will go from there to see if we can get pregnant. He did say that if I get pregnant that I would need to stay on progesterone the whole pregnancy to help prevent miscarriage because I will be at a higher risk. Anyway we shall see how everything goes and just take it one day at a time.
Darlene, I'm so glad this doctor turned out to be so good for you. I also have PCOS and recently went to RE for 1st appt. I'm thrilled with my RE and to be starting treatment for PCOS finally. I may be putting a hold on my infertility treatments though for a while. My mom was just dx with breast cancer & has to start treatments, which I'll be taking her to. Anyway, much luck to you & lots of babydust!
Darlene... i'm so glad you like the new doc. it is so important to trust your doctor!! may i just give you a word of advice... about your thyroid. optimal TSH level for conception is below 2.0. normal range is considered to be as high as 4 or 5. please... do not accept anything above 2 as 'normal'... you may want to consult an endocrinologist, but i'm not convinced they know much better either. If you would like to contact me off-list, I will send you some research articles you can take to your doctor so they can treat you appropriately. on top of the fertility treatments, i, myself, am dealing with thyroid issues, so i know how hard all of this can be. good luck...
