Miscarriage, newly pregnant, testing?

I had a miscarriage 4 weeks ago and went to the doctor and had it confirmed. They tested me until the hcg was at zero. I felt good for 4 days and then all the same pregnancy symptoms started over again.  On the 18th of sept I had some brownish bleeding, light and short.  I tested on the 29th and it was negative. Do you think I tested too early? When should I test again?
