Miscarriage followed by no ovulation

I'm so tired of being sad.  I suffered a miscarriage in April after a little over a year of trying.  It was our first attempt with IUI and we were successful.  I miscarried at 8 weeks - no chromosonal problems so we don't know the cause.  After my second cycle we tried the IUI again (with no drugs either time).  I had some bleeding in the 5 days that followed the IUI so I went to the dr and found out yesterday that I didn't ovulate this month.  They didn't have an explanation for the spotting.  Now they are suggesting I move to gonadatropins.  I'm so confused.  After one IUI was so successful I would think we should try this for a while but now I have the no ovulation thing - does anyone know if this is normal after a miscarriage?

Hi JLK and welcome to the site.

I am very sorry to hear about your recent miscarriage.  It is very heartbreaking when you want a baby so badly.  There are many people on this site who can 100% relate to how you are feeling.

I had a miscarriage in Dec at 11 weeks.  I had to have a d&c as well, I opted for this since this is my 3rd miscarriage and I wanted testing done.  After the mc my cycles went back to normal in the 1st month, however I was told my doc that this might not happen.  It can take longer with some women.

When you had your IUI were they closely monitoring your follicles with ultra sounds and bloodwork?  I just ask because my doc does.  On June 7th I went for my day 11 ultra sound and bloodwork.  They could not find any follicles and after getting my bloodwork back they said I already ovulated and this was extremely early.  They have no idea what went wrong either except for maybe since I began my Clomid on day 5 it triggered to release a leftover follicle from the previous month.  Not sure how this happens but apparently it does.

I just began taking Repronex (gonadatropins) on Wed.  If you are thinking about going that way and have any questions I would be more than happy to assist in any way I can.

This journey to motherhood can often be very draining on us.  I know how you feel when you say you are tired of being sad, I have been there many, many days still having them often.  I do try to think positive and hopfully one day my dreams (and yours) will come true.

Take care,
Liz

Hi Liz - Thank you so much for responding so quickly.  I have been secretly checking the site while I am at work and you made by day when I saw that someone out there responded - I guess it's even the little things that can make me feel better these days!

In terms of my first IUI which was in Feb., they were not monitoring my follicles.  For whatever reason, they did not advise clomid or any other drugs at that time.  The only thing I did in Feb and against last week was to have my progesterone checked within 7 days of ovulating.  When they told me yesterday that I had not ovulated, the nurse suggested getting more "agressive" because of my age - I'm 36 - and suggested the gonadatropins.  I guess it just caught me off guard because they never mentioned ovulation problems before and I had only tried the IUI once and it worked (though I miscarried).  I'm picking up some information on the gonadatropins over the weekend and I will definitely take you up on your offer for some insight into the drugs and the process.  I'm sorry that you didn't have the result you wanted this month but we may be at similar stages in the process so if I can be a sounding board for you as well in any way, I'd love to help.  I have a court hearing I must attend so I'll check back in over the weekend once I've read the materials.  Again, thank you for your kind words.  JLK

Jlk, you are very welcome.  This site has helped me tremendously over the past 2 months.  My dh is wonderful but he is a man and men seem to have dificutly understanding exactly how we women feel.  It is so very nice to have this site where we can all help one another.  If it wasen't for this site and the wonderful women I think I may have gone crazy lately.

Thanks for the kind words.  Af arrived for me last Friday 6-16 and I am now on day 8.  I began the Repronex on day 6, had a ultra sound this morning and blood work.  (They really closely monitor you when on the Ropronex).  I had several follicles on each site, but none that were dominant.  They say this is normal for day 8.  I am just waiting patiently for my bw results, should be in soon.

If you don't mind me asking why did you have the IUI?  Have you been disagnosed with a particular type of infertility?  I have hormone problems, low estrodiol at day 22 which they believe may be causing me to have poor ovulations.  Other than that and the 2 unexplained mc's they don't see any problems, had tons of tests and nothing abnormal.  My last miscarriage was a trisomy 13 which like I said ended at 11 weeks.  We were devestated, still trying to understand why this happens.

Take care and hopfully I will hear back from you soon.
Liz
