I just read your response to bleeding while on Lovenox. I am 11 weeks pregnant and have just started bleeding bright red. Not a lot but noticeable. I went in to the dr twice this week and everything looked fine w/baby. She said it was common ofr her patients on blood thinners to bleed during pregnancy. I had 4 beautiful children but then 2 miscarries at 5 months and delivered still born. I was diagnosed with Lupus/Anticardiolipin and really pray that this pregnancy will last. I am esp. nervous with the bleeding since the last 2 preganacies were miscarrages. Good luck with everything, Prayers and peace, Bridget
guys everything is going ok but i noticed Ophelia has the hard vien shaped ridge on the back of her head so @ her 2 week appointment i asked the peds doc what it was and he said oh thats just her skull, you can feel it on both sides of the back of her head. and i said no its only on the right side and then i showed him where to feel and he said oh, your right thats not what i was feeling before and he said i dont know what that is and he called in the other doctor in the practice for a 2nd opinion and they both asked if i had a forcep assisted delivery and i said no and they both didnt seem to know what it was but said they werent concerned and to keep an eye on it and make sure its not getting bigger, that it may be a hematoma from trauma of the vaginal delivery. but ive read up on hematomas and it doesnt decribe what she has. i think they arent concerned cause shes acting fine and when you touch it and what not it doesnt affect her at all but i am soooooo concerned it could be like some type on cranial bleed or hemorage or something cause of the lovenox. i also told the peds doc that i was on lovenox and he didnt seem to care. i may take her in somewhere else for a 2nd opinion b/c i dont like that fact that they didnt know what it was and were guessing at it. what do you guys think?

Hi Bridget, Thanks for your reply. So we are at the same stage in our pregnancies. I was wondering about whether the lovenox may cause that and now both of our doctors have confirmed it can. I also read some of the earlier entries on this site and looks like other women experienced this too. I think the best indication for us that the pg is progressing well is the ultrasounds so I'm going to try not to worry so much about any bleeding. It is scary though. I am going to ask my doctor about blood monitoring though. I mean without this how do they really know for sure that the lovenox is being effective - that the blood is not too thin or too coagulated? I am definitely going to ask for it by week 20 when they increase my dose to 40 mg 2x per day. I will be thinking positive thoughts for you and good luck to everyone else here too!
hi all, I used to post on here pre-pregnancy. I had moderately high levels of anticardiolipin antibodies and a history of stroke. I met with a hematologist and an OB at Mayo, who re-checked my blood and my anticardiolipin levels came back low, so they said go ahead, get preggers, you won't need lovenox...
So I did. And 7-8 weeks in, I miscarried. Doctors concluded that the miscarriage was so early that it was unlikely due to the antibodies. They also told me that I'd be fine to try again, no lovenox, and that they don't do any investigative testing into why I miscarried until I've miscarried 3 times.
I got a second opinion today from a perinatologist in my area. She thought that the docs at Mayo were not being proactive enough, and would want me on lovenox as soon as a fetal pole and yolk sac are detected on ultrasound, which is usually 6 weeks.
So now I'm confused. What do I do -chance it and try again without the lovenox, or play it safe and take the lovenox. The Mayo Clinic has such a great reputation, but I feel worried about getting pregnant again and losing it. I want to take every precaution.
If anyone has been in a similar situation, I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Hi Everyone, I just found out I am about 5 to 6 weeks pregnant and I have been put on Lovenox (40ml) a day. I have had two blood clots in the past due to birth control and another pregnancy about 7 years ago.
My question is has anyone had a history of clotting and gone on to have a normal pregnany and a healthy baby. All the Doctors I have met with say I am too high risk. I am so scared and can't find any information on people with my similar problem. Any information would be helpful!!! Thanks!
Mary- I am kind of in a similiar situation as you except I have no history of stroke. I had moderate levels of anticardiolopins in the past and was told I would be a high risk pregnancy if I were to ever get pg. 3 and 1/2 yrs ago I got pg and at 5 weeks lost it. Then a yr later had a chemical pg with a positive hpt and a day later bled out. 2 months later I got pg again and saw the perinatologist by 5 weeks. He ran tests and said he didn't recommend lovenox but considered me high risk and would monitor me closely. He told me if the baby's growth was slow or restricted I may have to go on it later. Well after numerous u/s with good heartbeats, the baby's heart just stopped beating at 11 weeks and I needed a d&C. 6 months later I went to see a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) and he restested me. My levels almost all came back normal except for one which has stayed consistently positive, but he was willing to offer me lovenox at 6weeks of pg with a confirmation of a fetal pole. From what I know antibodies can fluctuate and come and go. Some drs think if they are negative then no treatment and others say if they were positive in the past it is best to treat. Unfortunately, I have not been able to get pg since my last miscarriage. I have been doing IVF to try to get pg and I switched RE's. This one told me I need to be on lovenox while trying to conceive. I do not want to go through all this to get pg and lose it because I didn't try everything I feel is humanly possible. At this point I am willing to do the lovenox (despite potentional risks), if they feel it will help. It is really a very personal decision. You may get pg and be fine without it (i have one 9 yr old dd without lovenox) or you may lose another one. Either way lovenox is not a guarantee you will carry a baby to term but if it makes you feel like you did something that could help you may want to try it. Sorry for the long post, I wish you the best of luck with everything.
Are you still okay? It's been six months or so since your post... wondering how it turned out? I'm on 70 mg of Lovenox daily... just wondering if it helps or not. It's experimental in my case (RE is "just seeing" if this will help).
I had a blood clot during my first pregnancy at 28 weeks. I was put on lovenox at that point and all went well. I had a healthy baby boy at 40 weeks. With my second pregnancy, I was put on Lovenox as soon as I knew I was pg. I had a healthy 9lb. 8oz little girl in February with no complications! Lovenox worked great in my case! Best of luck to you.

Hi Lyly, thanks for your reply, I'm sorry to hear you've had similar experiences. It's really an awful thing to go through. From what I understand, any sort of clotting event (even if they find no cause for it) warrants use of anticoagulants during pregnancy. If I just had low levels of ACA alone, I might chance it again, but considering I have both the ACA *AND* a history of stroke I think perhaps it makes the most sense to be on a thinner. I have had a successful pregnancy, too, though that was many years ago, pre-stroke.
I also understand that risks to mom on low-level lovenox is pretty low. So, when I think about it - what's worse - the lovenox? Or another miscarriage? Or another clot? The lovenox starts to look not so bad...
This is all so complicated and worrisome. I've seen 4 OBs now for advice on my situation - 3 push the lovenox from 6 weeks on, one says no need for lovenox until after delivery. I want to believe the one that says all is well, but, yeah, I want to be able to say (should I miscarry again) that I did all I could to make the pregnancy a viable one.
I hope that you are able to share a successful pregnancy story with us soon. I understand how hard this can be. I want to try again but am afraid to after what just happened, and then to have to be worried about miscarrying again PLUS worrying about how the lovenox will affect me...UGH, that just seems like a lot to me right now. If only the stork really did bring babies! Life would be so much easier...
well i went to the ultrasound and he weighed 2lbs 9ozs and everything looked great and im above 50 %. we got a picture of him with his foot over his head. im just glad everything looked great,
i have been on the lovenox 4 weeks post partum now, and the shots, brusing and pain are100 times worse then when i was pregnant. hasanybody else experienced this? it is so bad i asked the doc today if we could stop them now, instead of waiting until 6 weeks, and she said no
runfast~it is not a good idea to stop now because your clotting risk is higher after preganacy for about 6 weeks. have you tried giving the shots in your inner thigh, it was easier for me and did not hurt as bad.
