Hello -
All of your responses have helped me so much -- thank you.
I finally was able to see my ob/gyn's office today and they did a vag. ultrasound. Thank goodness the baby's heartbeat was there! It had been such a long weekend and the bleeding did not ease off until today. (unfortunately the way my health insurance -- Kaiser Permanente HMO -- is set up, for weekend medical attention one goes to these medical centers where they do not have an ob/gyn on call or an ultrasound to ease one's mind -- it is so frustrating)
My ob/gyn today said that the bleeding (which has almost stopped - thank goodness again) did not seem to be related to the baby. He thought the bleeding might be due to a possible capillary or the like that I have that is close to the surface. He thought that the blood thinners I am on (the daily baby aspirin and lovenox) could be causing it to bleed. Of course he can not be positive.
Both my ob/gyn from today and another in the practice did seem surprised that the perinatologist I met with put me on both baby aspirin and lovenox. I thought that was interesting. But then they both separately stated that she (the perinatologist) was the specialist and deferred to her stating that I should continue as she prescribed. I am not sure what to make of all that?
Anyway, I can not even begin to express to all of you how much you helped me this weekend. It was such a scary two days and your helpful and kind messages meant so much. Please know that I will keep all of you in my prayers for only the best of outcomes.
-Susan

Hi Heathermac. Thanks for the info. I pregnant with my 3rd baby, and just found out i have factor 5. I started my lovenox yesterday, and I am on 70 Mg 2 x day. I thought that was kind of much considering my size. But I guess we will have to see. My first preg went good, but with 2nd my son was 8 weeks early due to clotting in placenta. I am currently 18 weeks and praying alot! But it is good to hear you and your baby are well and it is a success story. Much love, April

I also had a little bleeding. It was only a little bit red and then would be brown discharge for days. My doc took me off the asprin and said just take the lovenox. Well I haven't bleed since.
Quote from: Susan on 04/22/06, 21:33 Hello -
I just came across this thread and am so glad that I did. I am 10 weeks pregnant and started taking Lovenox 2 days ago (1 injection a day -- 40 mg). I am also taking a daily baby aspirin and folic acid. For the first time, I had some bleeding today and am very worried.
My question is if anyone has experienced any light bleeding while on Lovenox? Of course I am worried about a m/c but I am also hoping that it might have something to do with starting the injections and baby aspirin?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, -Susan

Where do you all inject yourselves? The tummy seems to work best for me. My doc said I could inject from my thighs up to the top of my tummy.

Hi all,
I've been reading through this thread for sometime now.
I've had 6 recurrent miscarriages, the last was in March 2006 and before getting AF, we got a BFP, we are happy but conceerned also.
This is my first pregnancy on 40mg of Lovenox perday, also taking progesterone caps orally, and baby aspirin 81mg per day.
I started spotting brown yesterday (5w 0d) and today at (5w 1d) it's still just there when i wipe but it's like it's turning reddish in colour.
I just feel so down......... I feel like it's probably the start of another m/c.
Does anyone have any advice to offer?
Do you think i should stop the baby aspirin seeing as i'm using the lovenox?
Please help, I just feel so sad right now, this is my 7th pregnancy and no children.
thanks, Cici

Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I am 12 weeks now - have had 2 prior miscarriages. I was seeing a specialist & was just converted over to a regular OB. The specialist also put me on daily Lovenox injections along with a baby aspirin per day. I've been doing this since the pregnancy was confirmed & he told me I would continue this until a few weeks before delivery. So far, all is well - I've had some spotting here & there, but they say that's normal. The Dr. did however have to decrease my dosage of Lovenox when my spotting was bright red. With the decreased dosage, it turned to brown & lately there's been nothing. Hope this helps.

StacyK,
As far as sites, I used my abdomen only. I rotated the sites with each injection and went from hip to hip...I bruised so badly on my thighs and stomach that I could only use my abdomen. By the end, I was bruised and knotted up pretty badly, but you can't tell now.
I was switched to Heparin just a few weeks before my due date because it's more surgery friendly, and the needles I was given for those injections were much more painful for some reason. The Lovenox needles are nice and sharp, and while it stings a lot and burns...I much preferred it to the Heparin.
Also, I was switched back to Lovenox for six weeks after delivery, which came as a total surprise to me...so be prepared that if that has not been discussed with you yet. I guess there is a HUGE concern for throwing a clot is after delivery, so it's actually for your health and wellbeing this time.
I hope each of you is well - keep the updates coming!! I wish you only the best!!

I so appreciate reading everyone's comments and feel so grateful to have found this forum. Cici, I am so happy to hear that the spotting/bleeding you experienced has stopped. Such good news! Regarding the question of where we inject ourselves ... I was taught to give myself the Lovenox in either leg, from the middle point out. While it does burn, fortunately it hasn't been too bad for me. I then realized that that might be the case due to my legs having a bit more "padding" than most of yours probably do! : ) My best wishes to all of you, -Susan

HAHA!! Susan...I guess that's why I had such good luck with my abdomen as an injection site - it's padded nicely!!

I started taking Lovenox 40mg 2x daily and a baby asprin also the day the pg was confirmed. I have had to m/c and delivered a premature baby at 24 weeks. She lived for 18 days and was such a fighter. I am 12wks and 1day now and things seem to be going well so far. I give my injections in the stomache and rotate sides every time I give an injection. I am pretty bruised and knotted up. Are all of you guys seeing a hemotologist as well as your OB?

I am not seeing a hemotologist. I am only taking lovenox 40mg once a day. I have stopped the baby asprin due to spotting. The spotting stopped after discontinuing the baby asprin. I am 18 weeks now.

Rheagan,
I did not see a hemotologist, either. Just my OB, but he works very closely with an endocrinologist that I also see and together they work on fertility issues. My RE was the one who actually put me on the Lovenox the day he released me to my OB, but he knew I was being monitored, so I think he was fine with that. I have seen the endocrinologist every six weeks for three years, so I get a lot of bloodwork done anyway.

I am + for Factor V. I have a daughter thats 6 and when I was 7 months they found a clot in my leg. Until the delivery I had to take 2 shots a day Lovenox first and then Heprin. I had a perfectly healthy little girl. We decided to try again and I lost my baby boy at 12 weeks just this last January. I am now pregnant again 9 weeks. I have to take 7 folic acid pills, 120 mg lovenox and progesterone pills, and prenatals. I pray this time that It works out. It is upsetting to m/c I have never felt so lost in my life. God is the only way that I made it through. Its amazing the read all the stories that you women have. It helps me to get through. The sad thing is at our church one of the other girls was due the same time as I was and I have to watch her belly grow. I am lucky to be caring another child, but I am worried all the time. Let me know how you girls feel
Thanks JILL
