aefthimiadis~ ive been wondering that myself, i really dont want to do heaprin cause of the whole recall situation but then what will they do? i would think they would just leave you on lovenox till the end and then take you off 24-48 before induction? i would be nervous going off and not being induced, are they just waiting for you to go naturally? thats really weird, i would definetly get a 2nd opinion. i mean couldnt you technically delvelope clots while not on anything, too scary.

I am 9 weeks pregnant and just got switched to lovenox from coumadin.  I had a stroke 4 years ago so this was of course an oops.  The ob office just did an ultrasound yesterday and so far everything looked okay.  I have to go see a high risk dr so I will not have the same office as before.  We really haven't told anyone yet, because we were trying to see if we could make it to 12 weeks.  It's scarey and exciting at the same time.

kelly~ welcome! i have to ask, why did they wait so long to take you off of coumadin, did you just find out you were 9 weeks along?

so ive been trying to get a handle on my financial situaton, we were already including our tax credit so it doesnt help as extra money since we were already depending on it. i asked for overtime at my job and im actually getting 5 hours extra a week which is incredible since were so slow. and my dh is going to keep his eye out fo a part-time job. with just the overtime  i just may get to scrimp a 8-10 week maternity leave but thats providing i work through my 38th week, which we all know i cant gurantee. and thats also leaving us on a tight budget where if we even breathe the wrong way could come crashing down. *sigh* so stressful.

im going to meet with a pediatician today so im going to ask him to breast feed or not to breast while on lovenox, we'll see. i hope i can.....

ok so i met with the pediatrician yesterday, idk.... he was ok, kinda didnt like his personality, he was young, kinda cocky and you could tell he thought himself very charming. plus he was very pro-vaccines and said he would have to have a good reason not to vaccinate, and im thinking, how bout cause i said so!? so not sure if itll work with him. and when i asked him about breast feeding while on lovenox he said he didnt know cause it was class b and there not alot of research in humans yet. a rookie answer if you ask me (hes only 4 years out of school) , i mean i know that theres not alot of research hence im asking a doctor who can give an answer out of experience not a text book.

anyways, i went to my ob today and asked her about breast feeding on lovenox and she said absolutley, she has tons of mothers who do it all the time with no problems. thats the kind of answer i expected from the peds doctor.

aefthimiadis~ i asked my ob as well whats going to happen with me now b/c of the heprin recall and she said that they would just keep me on lovenox till then end set up an induction date and tell me to stop taking it 48 hours prior to induction. she said shed prefer to switch to heprin @36 weeks since its only in your system 12 hours but since there is none in the u.s. right now this is the method they been using with all their patients who are on lovenox. i even asked"you wouldnt take me off @ 36 weeks and then have me on nothing would you?" and she like oh god no! so definatelty get that 2nd opinion cause what your doc is suggesting sound too dangerous. i asked what would happend if you went early and you were still on lovenox and she said they do have medications that counter act lovenox but they are used as a last resort, if you go into labor and you just took you shot that same day you cant have an epidural, but i say so what? all of us have know all along that an epidural may not be an option anyways so for me im just accepting the fact that im going to have an epidural free birth. there are other pain meds that are an option or you could go drug free all together, whats wrong with that, people do it all the time, right?

watergazer~ i also asked my ob about birth control options b/c i dont need another"whoops" on my hands anytime soon. i asked about an IUD , i was under the impression that us clotting gals only had the copper iud as an options but she said that we can also use the Mirena with progestone too b/c the hormone isnt released in your blood stream like the pill, its centralized in your uterus so b/c of that you dont have a clotting risk from it . plus its supposed to shorten or stop your periods too. she says she has several women with more severe clotting disorders than me on it with no problems. so even if they dont sterlize you and you husband at least you know that you have that as an option.

other than that all still looks good, ill be start to go to the doctors once a week beginning 5/21 to do the stress test for the baby.

Well seeing that this pregnancy was an oops none of us knew that I was pregnant.  I went to see my family practioner because I had been bleeding for 3 weeks and he took blood and called me the very next day that I was pregnant.  That's when he immediately took me off of the coumadin and put me on the lovenox.  So now it's just a waiting game to see if we make the 12 wee mark.  I wasn't supposed to get pregnant because it could be very dangerous to me.  One day at a time.

I'm glad that you are doing well this time.

Hey Veroki:

Thanks for asking your ob.  That is what I thought.  I have done so much reading and research that I know stopping is not an option.  I am waiting to go to my hematologist on Tuesday and then on the 18th I see my ob/gyn that is when I will tell him I do not want to stop lovenox.  I rather not have the option of an epidural then be without this shot and risk my baby's life.  Oh please I keep saying to myself my mom had me natural and my grandmother had 12 kids naturally.  Women have been doing this forever...our bodies know what to do and will not let us down.  If I need an emergency c-section (hopefully not) then he could just administer general anesthesia...I will keep you posted.  we are almost there....can't wait

veroki~i am breastfeeding and it seems to be going great. I am also curious why you dont want her vaccinated? I did a lot of research and it is better for them to be vaccinated than not to be. They have done studies with children that have not been vaccinated and  really the only thing it proved is that the vaccines actually keep kids from getting the diseases and viruses.

watergazer~I am getting mirena the iuc next week i will let everyone know how it goes.

I was never given the option to be switched to heprin my doctors felt lovenox was safer all the way around. They were planning to take me off the day before my induction but i had a csection and they just made skip the shot the day before i was scheduled. all went well.

well im on the fence about vaccinations, i have a family member whos autistic and i just dont want people to make that decision for me, i need to do the research for myself and come to my own conclusion about it, not cause some doctor tells me to. i know that  research has shown that vaccines dont cause autism , but there are studies suggesting that if a child was already gentical prediposed to it that it might bring out the onset of it, which like i said i have a famliy member with it so who knows. if anything i might look into a delayed vaccine schedule, we'll see, i just need to do more research.

Hi,

I'm new, with a few questions! Sorry if this has all been asked before, the 96 pages of posts is overwelming

I'm 12 weeks and on lovenox, 40mg/day for Factor V.  Has anyone had increased nausea and morning sickness due to the lovenox?  I see that it is listed as one of the side effects.  Before the lovenox, I had nausea, but only threw up once (in 2 weeks) since the lovenox it's normally 5-6 times a day, a few days as many as 12 times.

I called my Dr. today to ask about some kind of medication to help, and the nurse laughed at me.  Told me that my morning sickness seemed mild.  She suggested crackers.  Thanks.  I would have never thought of that on my own.

If it is due to the lovenox, I guess I have another 9 months of this to look forward to!

Thanks for any advice!

I have been on Lovenox for 31 weeks now and yes, it has made me very sick.  I normally have bad morning sickness, but this time it was so much worse.  It has gotten somewhat better a couple of weeks ago, but as I get closer to my due date again I am sick.

I was on medicine for it.  THe first kind made me worse, the last kind did help.  I would still be nauseated, but I could eat and I wouldn't throw up.  The down side is that the medicine made me extremely constipated! In the past month I have only taken 1 pill, compared to taking 2 a day.
Good luck!

Rachel if you are vomitting 6 or more times a day you need to be carefull to not dehydrate.  Ask the dr for ether reglan or zofran both are good for morning sickness.

I have to tell you, I posted a question on here last year when I was pregnant with my daughter, Laynee.  She is now 7 months old.  I was worried about taking Lovenox.  It actually was for the best to be on Lovenox.  The last few weeks I kept accidentally skipping my Lovenox dose.... I didn't mean to.  Then I got small blot clots in the small vessles going to the placenta, she stopped growing and was born 8 weeks premature... she was only 2 lbs. 5 oz.!!! She lived and is healthy, but being born that small is not normal for a baby to not have lifelong problems.  She is just that strong and her developmental and motor skills are up to a 7 month old, but she is still size 3 month clothes.  THEN.... I got pregnant 2 months after she was born, proof that condoms don't work 100%.  Now that I am pregnant and I am on Lovenox again.  My husband and I feel safe me taking Lovenox again.  I now have a system to make sure I don't forget a dose.  Mistakes happen, I accidentally missed one on Tues., but it is the 1st dose I have missed in 21 weeks.  The new pregnancy so far has gone good and it is another girl, Abigail.

I am the kind of person to question everything until I feel safe about it... I trust Lovenox... hopefully this will help someone else feel safer about it too.
