Yes, I had my son that way. I suffered through 3 miscarriages before my new doctor decided to put me on lovenox. Started taking it at about 5-6 wks along and stopped it at 36 wks. My son was born at 39 wks. Had a very normal pregnacy and son was/is very healthy. He is 3 yrs old now!

I am pregnant for the first time, and on Lovenox for Factor V. My Ob prescribed 40mL once a day, then my Hematologist upped it to twice a day. Is this normal, and will it increase the risks?

Audrey,
I'm on Lovenox also, I have been on it since Oct 05, I am on 60mg once aday, My Ob Dr told me once pregnant they would increase the dose.
I just miscarried 2-3 weeks ago, and they did'nt get a chance to increase the dose, I think it will only help with your pregnancy, There is know harm in taking Lovenox while pregnant.
I would rather have enough then not enough!
I have an apt for the first time with a Hematologist, how did your apt go? and exactly what was done? I just figure it will be alot of blood work, do you feel the visit was helpful?
Good luck to you through out your pregnancy, keep us updated! You will be in my prayers...Take Care, China

China,
I delivered a healthy baby 11/05, and I was on Lovenox from the day I got the confirmation beta until six weeks AFTER he was born. Apparently, with clotting problems, the greatest risk of throwing a clot is AFTER the baby is born...so I was on Lovenox for nearly 11 months.
I suffered from m/cs before the pg, so my RE put me on 30mg 2x/day right away. However, after I finished the course of treatment, my OB asked why I didn't do the 60mg shot instead of the two 30mg shots I did. Grr. Anyway, I have TONS of clotting factors and issues that I can't even remember - Factor XI was one I remember, and there are several more I just can't remember. I thought it was MTHFR, and Factor V, but it's neither of those.
I was also on 5mg of Folic Acid per day PLUS two Foltx tablets to help wtih the clotting. All the folic acid and b vitamins keep the blood less from getting sticky, so with the Lovenox and the extra meds, AND the grace of God, I had a wonderful miracle.
You might want to ask about the folic acid and foltx...it's a lot of extra pills per day, but worth it for peace of mind.
I hope they get your meds straight so you can have a happy, healthy pregnancy and get that precious bundle in your arms!!
Best wishes and baby dust to you!

Aprila -
Yes, the Lovenox burns going in...and it doesn't get much better, I'm sorry to say. I was on it for ten months in total, but I was grateful to have it.
I found that a little ice rubdown of the injection site helps with the burn.
Good luck to you ladies!!

Hello -
I just came across this thread and am so glad that I did. I am 10 weeks pregnant and started taking Lovenox 2 days ago (1 injection a day -- 40 mg). I am also taking a daily baby aspirin and folic acid. For the first time, I had some bleeding today and am very worried.
My question is if anyone has experienced any light bleeding while on Lovenox? Of course I am worried about a m/c but I am also hoping that it might have something to do with starting the injections and baby aspirin?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, -Susan

Susan,
Why are you on asprin while you're on the Lovenox?? If your doctor put you on it, I'd ask why you're on it. I was told I could not even be taking asprin while taking Lovenox...it's a blood thinner, and so is the asprin, so that may be part of your bleeding.
Just ask your doc when you talk to them again.
Let me know what happens!!

Hey Susan,
I was also on Lovenox, 81mg of aspirin, folic acid and pre natal pills I m/c at 7 weeks.
I pray that's not your case, sometimes we do experience light bleeding during the first trimester, I don't believe there is anything wrong with taking aspirin and Lovenox or Heparin, I am on Heparin now still trying to conceive as well as aspirin and the other things I mentioned above.
Lovenox and Heparin are both blood thinners, and if your Dr put you on them both it must be necessary, it's all depending on what kind of clotting disorder you have.
Just to be safe I would probably go to the emergency to make sure everything is OK.
Have you had a m/c before? I pray everything is OK, please keep us posted on your situation, Just pray and believe all goes well!
Take Care....Tiffany

Thank you both so much for your responses. I was so relieved to see your messages this morning and so appreciate the support and information.
I have never had a m/c before (I have a 2.5 year old daughter -- delivered by emergency c-section due to placenta abruption). I did go yesterday to my drs. "after-hours- care" so while I didn't see my ob/gyn I did see a dr. She checked my cervix and told me it was closed. Is that a good sign against a m/c? I just am so anxious until Mon. when I can see my ob/gyn. The bleeding continues but not in a steady way. Overnight I did pass a small blood clot. I don't understand this given that I am on blood thinners?
It was a perinatologist that put me on both the 40 mg. Lovenox injection and a baby aspirin. She also said I should continue taking folic acid, my prenatal vitamin and a calcium supplement. I met with her last Wed. per my ob/gyn's referral (it will by my ob/gyn who I will interact with regularly). I tested positive for both MTHFR and APS. My numbers are in the mid-range (not the highest but not the lowest).
I have to thank you again for being there for me! Just being able to talk about it with women who understand helps so much.

Hey Susan,
You are so wlcome, you have come to the right place for support, women here have been through what you are going through, you can always find someone to relate to.
Your cervix being closed is excellent, but usually I believe you don't have to be real concerned about that early in the pregnancy, m/cs that usually happen in the first trimester we have know control over, I have had six, and I just feel that something was wrong with the baby and it was'nt meant to be here and to suffer.
That's just my thoughts.
And with you passing the small clot, that does'nt mean that you had a m/c, you need to get a beta count down and then get another in 48 hours and that will put your mind at ease.
I was told by my Ob I had APS, but when I saw the Hematologist he said the test for that and everything else was negative.
I pray all is well with you, please keep use posted, while you are bleeding or spotting try not to do any heavy lifting and get as much rest as possible with your feet elavated.
Take Care....Tiffany

Susan,
Tiffany is right - much more to clotting than I am aware of...I just find it so strange that I was told NO asprin. Tiffany tells you right - so stick with her knowledge and experience.
I hope both of you are well and I will keep you both in my prayers.

Susan, I am 7 wks today and started Lovenox 40mg injections on 4 days ago. The same day I started, I bled a little and went to the ER just to be safe. I ahve lost 2 pregnancies in 9 months so I am a little paranoid! They did complete bloodwork and an internal ultrasound and found the baby was just fine. I think the Lovenox had something to do with the bleeding, YES. I have been diagnosed with Anticardiolypin blood clotting disorder and hope the Lovenox helps us keep this baby. I really DON'T think you are supposed to still be taking the baby aspirin! My specialist told me to stop the day before I started the Lovenox. I would call your Doctor immediately and clear this up. Remember, you can't be too paranoid, call 100 times if you need to! I hope this helps. TanyaT
