Hello Doctor What will be the sucess rate if i go for IVF with poor morphology? My husband sperm count is 70 million, motility is 48% and morpholohy is 16% Will i have high chances of multiple pregnancies?, iam only 28 yrs old and have one son 7 yrs old. Our issue is reg. male infertility only, i am normal and i dont have any problems.
Your indivual success with IVF will depend on many factors (i.e. sperm morphology on the day of IVF, egg number, etc. Accordingly, it is difficult to predict. Overall, the average term pregnancy rate for someone in your age group is about 50% per attempt. Your chance of multiple gestation (twins, triplets, etc) is proportional to the number of embryos transferred. I would suggest the embryos be cultured to the blastocyst stage for two reasons. First, poor sperm morphology can result in higher than usual embryonic arrest prior to reaching the blastocyst stage. By waiting until some of the embryos reach the blastocyst stage, the embryologist will be able to idenitify which embryos have the capacity for continued development. Secondly, by transferring only two blastocyst stage embryos, your chances of high order multiple gestation (i.e. triplets and above) can be minimized. I recommend that you speak with your doctor about blastocyst culture and transfer.
