I have lost 3 children. One was at 24 weeks, my sweet Montana, one at 6 weeks and the other at 19 weeks, my sweet son Arizona. I just found out yesterday that I have C877T mutation and  the A1298C mutation. I just lost my son on April 1st. I was blessed with my 6 year old son. I carried him full term with no real major problems. My doctor tells me that He was honestly a miracle. My last son Arizona was a Trisomy 18 baby. But my Doc reassures me that that has no relation. I just would like hear some of everyone else's stories so that I won't be alone.

Me again.  I have been reading so many posts on MTHFR - yes, I am obsessed.  My question is this - if this is such a common mutation, so easily detectable AND more so, easily treatable, why don't they make this type of testing a requirement for any women TTC?  Why should anyone have to go through such emotional and physical trauma (late miscarriages, NTD's, etc.) when a blood test could provide so much insight and virtually solve a major problem?

Where is everyone? Are there any new pregnancies? Any reports from pregnant moms?  My daughter is at 25 weeks with a baby girl. She's compound heterozygous for MTHFR and took Lovenox, baby aspirin and extra folic acid before conception.

I have had three miscarriages and two healthy boys.  My most recent miscarriage was two weeks ago.  I was on heparin and baby aspirin for the two pregnancies that worked.  During this last pregnancy, I was pregnant with twins - one with a heartbeat one without.  I had begun taking Lovenox, but by ten weeks, I had miscarried.  Bloodtests showed that I was heterozygous for the A1298C mutation of MTHFR.  Anyone know what the difference is between the two mutations?  Anyone have the A1298C??

Mary E., Sorry I don't know about the mutations, But I also have had several miscarriages the last being Feb 06, this was the first pregnancy that I was on Lovenox 60 mg once aday, I still miscarried at 6 weeks I was also taking the aspirin, prenatal, folic acid and B-vitiamins.

Can I ask why you swithched from Heparin to Lovenox? And also do you think if you were on the Heparin you would'nt have miscarried? I have been on Hepain for a week, I am still trying to conceive, and also how much Heparin and Lovenox were you on? I'm taking 5000ml 2x aday, I believe Heparin works better from what I have read verses the Lovenox!

Thanks Tiffany

thomasine, I will start Heparin Monday, I am taking it because my OB feels that I form blood clots in my placenta when I'm pregnant and I believe the Heparin helps to prevent them from coming, along with taking 81mg of Asprin everyday, I was on Lovenox which is a form of Heparin but I asked my Dr to switch me to Heparin which I will take 5000ml twice aday, so I have ti inject myself in my stomach or my side every 12 hours, with the Lovenox I only had to inject myself once aday 60mg, so talk with your Dr and see what works best for you, some Dr's want to wait to get a positive reading before they put you on any form of Heparin, but not my Dr I have been on forms of Heparin for about 6 months! Good Luck and continue to let us know what's going on and how your doing...Do you have problems conceiving? Take Care...Tiffany

When I spoke with him , he said he out me on Heperin because os the c677t mutation, he also said that would assist me in hold the pregnancy. I will the clomid again after my second cycle. I just m/c a few weeks ago. Now I'm waithind for my first period. At least I would have started on the blood thinner. Are you pregnant now? Did you test positive for the c677t mutation? if so , was it one or two copies?

tstovall, I have had every test you can imagine and they have all come back NEGATIVE, even the Hematologist took 15 tubes of blood and tey all came back NEGATIVE as well! No I'm not pregnant now, but I'm still trying, When I had the miscarriage in Feb 06, I took Provera 5-6 weeks later to bring down my period so I would'nt have to wait 8 weeks to try .

What kind of shot were you given? They only time I know that your given a shot after a tubal, miscarriage or abortion is when you are RH Negative, are you?

Take Care look forward to hearing from you soon...Tiffany

The tubal was detected at 6 weeks which made me a canidate for a shot called Methotrexate. It disolved the pregancy in the tube with out surgery.I still have both tubes. Can you emagine getting pregnant in the tube then the next m/c. I'm hopefull after starting treatment for the c677t that I will carry to term.I Pray that everything works out for you. once you get your periode they can give you somethindg to make you ovalate like clomid and I'M sure there are others out there. From reading this forum, the c677t is major problem with spontanious m/c.

Hello everyone, I am glad I have found this forum. I lost a baby at 17 weeks of pregnancy after two perfect pregnancies. Necessary tests were conducted and I was informed that I have this so-called  C677t Mutation.
I have so many questions of whcih I am not able to keep track at this time. However, I still remember some:
-Does anyone here know whether there is a difference between  MTHFR  and C677tMutation?
-Do those who have it have to be on medication for the rest of their life?
-Is it hereditary?
I am so happy to hear some success stories and to know that  some are currently expecting and are feeling fine. Good luck to all.

Tiffany,
Saw the hemotologist yesterday and he put me on folix, it has b12 b6 and folic acid. He said when I get a positive he will put me on the heprin. He took 9 tubs of blood from . I also shared this forum with him as well along with some other research which was an eye opener for him. However my ob does not seem to thing the c677t has anything to do with my m/s. But the evidence is here on this forum. I printed out copies of this forum in the hemotologist office. I will let you knoe what the test read when they come back.

I thought that I would provide you with some answers to a few of your questions below because I asked the same ones when I found out that I was positive for the C677T Mutation at the beginning of this year.  Yes it is hereditary.  MTHFR is the name of the test with two possible results - the C677T another gene that starts with an A.  I was the first in my family to ever be tested for this and therefore my mom and sister were tested and both of them have the exact same mutation and two copies of it like me.  My hemotologist (which I see once a month during my pregnancy) told me that after delivery of this baby that I will not have to be on Lovenox nor the 81mg of asprin.  Just a little history, I am currently on my 4th pregnany, first pregnancy was fine (no medications), second was a m/c at 10 weeks, then I had a fetal demise at 26 weeks last year and currently 20 weeks pregnany. I hope this information helps.  I would recommend that you see a hemotologist that can answer all your questions.

I haven't posted for a little while, so I thougt I'd send an update. My daughter is at 26 weeks and taking Lovenox, baby aspirin and folic acid. She had one early miscarriage and later was diagnosed with compound heterozygous MTHFR. I think they did the additional testing because she had already been undergoing fertility treatment and is 36 years old. She recently had an ultrasound at the high risk OB that showed an umbilical cord with three vessels and normal blood flow.
We are very hopeful that she will carry her baby girl to 38 weeks when labor will be induced.
God bless.
