I recently went to my gynocologist, and I was told that I may have fibroids. My sonogram is schedduled for thursday. Me and My boyfriend of 3 years have been trying to conceive for over a year, can fibroids play a role in unsucessfulness? Can fibroids cause infertility? I know that I should have asked my doctor this, but I had so many other questions, I guess that It kinda got left out. THANK YOU.

Fibroids on the outer surface of the uterus probably do not interfere with achieving a pregnancy.  Fibroids in the middle of the uterine wall probably interfere with implantation of embryos in IVF cycles, but removing those fibroids probably does not improve pregnancy rates.  Removing fibroids from under the uterine lining apparently does enhance implantation rates in IVF treatment.
Good luck.
