Hello Dr. Smith,
I am currently going through a frozen embroyo transfer cycle.  I have been taking estradiol since day 2 of my cycle.  I know that this is standard, but I was wondering what exactly does the estradiol do?  Will I still ovulate as I normally do?  I know that the estradiol will increase my estrogen level, but I don't fully understand what it is being used for.
Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance Dr. Smith.

This is more of a medical question, so I'd suggest that you also post on Dr Jacob's Infertility 101 Message Board.

Estrogen is used to stimulate the growth of the cells that line the uterus (endometrium) in preparation for implantation. It is estrogen that causes the endometrium to increase in thickness on sequential  ultrasound examininations.

I'll leave the ovulation question to Dr Jacob, because this will depend on the other medications you are taking in conjunction with the estradiol.

Thank you Dr. Smith!  I will post this question on fertility 101 to Dr. Jacob.
Again, thanks for your response.
