My day 3 report reads like this: five 8-cells with one compacting already, five 7-cells, and one 6-cell. On the compacting embryo -- is this a good thing? I wasn't given a grading on this one, just that it's compacting. My RE has advised that I do a blast transfer. Are chances higher with a blast transfer?
Thanks! RA
p.s. Thanks for the invaluable info on vacuoles and pn!
Observing compaction (when the cells all start sticking closely together) on Day 3 is a good thing. The term "compacting" is the grade of the 8-cell embryo.
The chances of a safe pregnancy are higher with blastocyst transfer (i.e. no triplets, quads, etc.). You also have the added benefit of knowing that, at the time of transfer, the embryos have reached the developmental stage necessary for attachment to the uterine lining. There is a lot of information about blastocyst transfer in recent posts here on Shared Journey, so look around and you should find what you are loooking for. In addition, here is a link to a previous thread on blastocyst transfer from a few years ago http://www.sharedjourney.com/articles/3vs5.html
