Babies arrived

Hey all, after our long journey of infertility we now are faced with a long journey in the NICU.  Our twins were born on July 7th and were due October 14th.  They are extremely healthy, just tiny.  Our son Winn Spencer weighed 1 lb 11 ounces and our daughter Alyssa Marie 1 lb 9 ounces.  They are now over 2 lbs, they are fine just will need to be in the NICU until their due date.  Wow, a long journey indeed.  Hope all is well with everyone else, I haven't been on in a long time.

Take Care

Sylvia,

Bless your heart...I'm sure it's been a rough month for you.  I'm glad to hear Winn and Alyssa are healthy, albeit a little small...we'll take tiny and healthy!!

It will be a long haul in the NICU, but thank God for the NICU!!  I have a friend who is a NICU nurse, and, wow...I constantly have to look for her wings under her uniform.  Those precious babies are in good hands!!

I will keep you, DH and your sweet babies in my prayers and hope the time goes by quickly for all of you.

If you do get a minute between visits, keep us posted about how you are doing and about how those sweet babies are doing.

You're doing great, Sylvia!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Thank you Heather, the babies are doing wonderful.  My son is now 2 lbs 10.6 ounces and Alyssa is 2 lbs 2 ounces.  I know I am fortunate many parents here do not have as gentle a road as I do.  I have been here 5 weeks now and the biggest worry has been the apnea and bradycardia that is normal in preemies.  I was barely 26 weeks pregnant when they were born and the one thing that suprised me was how COMPLETE they were.  Down to the tiny fingernails and eyelashes, they were just my babies.  I appreciate the support from you all, it is great.
The only negative thing I have to say about the NICU is that in the front of my children's charts they put in big letters IVF, I ask the doctor if they were more prone to certain things b/c they were IVF babies, he said no.  There was no medical reason the nurses needed to know that.  I am not ashamed that my husband and I had to do IVF to conceive but a few of the nurses have expressed their disapproval of the method we used to have our children.  They would not have known had someone not put it on their admission sheet.  Now every nurse asks me if they were IVF.  I am sooo mad about that.  Anyway, hope you all are doing well.  Take Care all.

Sylvia,

I am SOOOOOO glad to hear this great news!!  They're doing so well!!  What great news!!

So, why would they put IVF on the charts??  That makes no sense whatsoever - especially if they're not prone to any complications because of it.  Now, as far as nurses giving you the eye over it, you can tell them to kiss your butt!!  WHO CARES??  AND WHO ARE THEY TO JUDGE??  If you're a religious sort, you can look in the book of Mark and it clearly states that it is not MY job to judge...it is not YOUR job to judge...it is not any PERSON'S job to judge...it is GOD'S job to judge.  And, God loves you and those precious babies, so poo on them.  Don't let them worry you or bother you - you need your energy for all those trips to the NICU to see those gorgeous pumpkins!!

I am SO glad to hear your babies are well - please keep us posted and know that you and your beautiful family are in our prayers!!

I just saw the post about your little angels – I hope you and they are doing well tonight. They really are little fighters and I think that is wonderful. I hope for nothing but good news from you about how they are doing and I will keep thinking positive thoughts for their continued good development. Best of luck and know that many of here are pulling for you and your family.

As for that IVF nonsense I double HeatherMak's sentiments. It is none of their business and how can they justify many of the amazing medical advances we are blessed with, especially in a NICU, if they do not think God is as much behind those advancements as he is in providing the miracle of IVF?

Just keep your focus on the babies small minded people like that do not deserve your attention.

Thank you all, that is how I have been looking at it, I just get tired of the questions.  It isn't their business, they need to be focusing on my babies HEALTH not their conception.
Both Winn and Alyssa have no lung disease they have no health isuues whatsoever so I am fortunate.  I believe(no proof) that b/c we went through so much to get pregnant we tend to take better care of ourselves once we get that way and so the babies are healthier as a result.  Just a personal theory.  I better run thank you all for your support and I hope everything is going well for you all.

Sylvia: Yay for your babies! Wow what strong little ones. I am so happy that things are going well. As far as the IVF statement, as the ladies have said before me that is ridiculous and personally I wouldn’t let it bother you. People are sometime unintentionally cruel! I think us (people that have ridden the infertility roller coaster) are 100x more thankful for each blessing!

Keep us updated! Our prayers & thoughts are with you and the little ones!

Sylvia, I am glad to read your babies are gaining weight and doing well. I am surprised to read they put IVF on their chart. What nurse would ever say anything?!!! Shame on them. Don't let it rattle you, you have enough to deal with. FYI, when they come home they will need a special car seat for preemies. If you don't have one, contact the hospitals special services. They may have extra FREE ones you can borrow until they are bigger.

Sylvia,
I am also a mother of b/g twins born at 25 1/2 weeks.  I know exactly what your going through.  I drove back and forth to the hospital every day for 3 months, it was really hard to leave them each night but the days grew faster and now they are home and doing wonderful.

It will get easier!
I didn't use a special car seat.  i just rolled up a receiving blanket and tucked it around the infant head rest and it seems to be working out great.  It supports their head.

Good luck

Sylvia, first of all, congratulations!!!!
I feel close to you because my due date is just one date before yours was, Oct. 13! I pray every day that my little one stays in as long as possible. But at the same time, your babies show us that they are fighters, no matter how big or little they are. Who said life was easy?!
If only the nurses who judged you knew what it is not to be able to conceive"the natural way", they would think twice before making that stupid remark on your babies' chart. Don't let it get to you, you have more important things to take care of!
All the best to you. Those trips to the hopsital must be exhausting for you but concentrate on the day you will finally bring them home!

Take care. Fiso

Hi Sylvia! I hope all is well with you and your angels.

I just wanted to clarify my own car seat dillema when I had my twins...At my shower I received 4 car seats 2 infant, and 2 conversion. When Lauren was being released from the continuing care unit she had a car seat "test" they put her in it for 1/2 an hour and monitored her breathing and something else. Anyways, they told me she failed it and at the last minute dh and I had to go purchase a particular one that had certain measurements for straps and had to be 0-25 lbs not the 5-25 lbs one we had. It was only afterwards I found out I could have borrowed one from the hospital. Maybe it was just this particular hospital that was so strict? Oh well....

take care...cassandra
